Cat isn't feeling well, this'll be a long night

So my cat’s system didn’t deal well with my SO buying him a different food than usual and he’s having litter box issues. I’m calling the vet first thing in the morning, but it looks like I’ll be up most of the night with him.

He keeps trying to go, but isn’t having much luck and is talking about it quite a bit. He’s also very restless and has already nearly gone in several places around the house. I feel for the little guy because I know how bad it feels (I have IBS). But that means I have to keep an eye on him when he’s not napping. I can’t wait until the vet opens.

I never thought I’d run across someone more pussy-whipped than I am…

Poor thing, hope he’s okay. And bless you for taking such good care of him!

He finally settled down for a few hours. The vet recommended giving him canned pumpkin to see if that gets things moving. So we’re trying that now and he’s actually eating it with no trouble.

There’s also the hairball paste - some brands psyllium seeds, which act as good laxatives.

Or maybe flaxseed.

I had a Maine Coon with megacolon, and we went the canned pumpkin route, too. In fact, he got some every day for months? maybe over a year? so I started freezing it in ice-cube trays and thawing a few at a time so the rest of the can wouldn’t go moldy. It’s a common vet recommendation.

Are things any better now?

We’re at the vet now. They’re checking for constipation and uti just in case. I tried the pumpkin which he gobbled up but no change.

Well, if he turns out to have chronic bowel issues, at least you won’t have any trouble getting some extra fiber into him via pumpkin!

we’re home and she’s pretty sure it’s a UTI rather than bowel issues. No extra stool showed up on the x-ray. Maybe he just didn’t have to poop as much the last day or so.

So we have antibiotics and they’ll call with the urinalysis results. Thanks for the well wishes, I really hate seeing the little guy in pain.

Aw, hope he is feeling better soon. I hate the idea that they don’t know why they are hurting and that we are just trying to help.

Where’s the picture of the patient?

How could I have forgotten the rule! Here he is.
