My cat, Shadow, loves to stay outside. I’m concerned with his safety because we live in a high traffic area and he lays in the street. I was watering the grass today and kid rode his bike over his tail and he just stood up and moved after that. I have to search for him every night to brong him in so he won’t get killed by someone. H eis so friendly and I think he would get cat-napped in a sec. How do I keep him in my yard? If I do keep him in he yowls, cries, and tears the curtains off the windows and starts fighting with the other cat. My other cat has no problem with the house. She’s in the house all the time and only goes out to do her business.
If your question was should you keep Shadow inside, I would have to say my opinion is yes. I have spoken with several vets on this issue and they all concur that it is much safer and better for house cats to be inside.
Since your question is more how to keep him happy inside, I’ll have to take a pass on that one. Behavior modification is certainly possible but I don’t have clue how to do it.
Hmm,it sounds like the relationship between the cats is an issue. Perhaps he needs some indoor space that is just his?
One of my cats is also called Shadow. Cool name. He’s a charcoal tabby and easily melds into the shadows. Both of ours freely wander in and out, but fortunately neither likes the road. They get scared by cars revving. This is good.
My cats go outside for about 2 hours at night. We, too, live on a busy street, but it quiets down after about 7:30. They each have a glow in the dark necklace (not collars, collars are for animals!) that stretch in case it gets caught. They get a treat when they come in, and they know the word, so if it gets late, I can call “treat!” And they’re home in a flash.
They like going out at night, because they are, by nature nocturnal.
It may take some time to convince Shadow to wait until dark. Good Luck
