Cat shopping!

Oh, boy, my first new cat adventure since 1998. We are about to go look at cats, preferably but not necessarily kittens, to find a pair to bring home for our geriatric DLH. We had one cat disappear a while ago (probably hit by a car, though we don’t know for sure and there are a lot of unleashed dogs in our area) and one had to be euthanized recently because she had a massive bowel tumor. So now we’re looking for litter mates or other congenial kitties because we and the remaining cat are missing the constant cat action only multiple cats can provide.

Details as they occur!

Oooh, I’m jealous. I’d love to be able to bring home more babies. Sadly, we’re full up, with 3 cats, 1 dog and 1 bird.

I am so jealous! I would highly recommend a Siamese or a Siamese mix. I have the most adorable cat that I adopted from a shelter - he’s some kinda crazy Siamese/snowshoe mix (classic, applehead Siamese look - white paws - and extra toes!) and he is the funniest, most talkative, loviest, acrobatic cat I’ve ever met. He just keeps me laughing!

What does DLH stand for?

Regarding the car and dogs thing: that, along with diseases, is why I’ll never have anything but indoor cats. I can’t take the heartbreak.

DHL= domestic long hair, I believe.

Good luck with your cat shopping,** susan**.

Ah ok. See I was stuck in the rut of “DH” (Dear Husband) and such and so my brain was going down a totally different path with that one. Ha!

I got a brother-sister pair through Craigs List who have made my life delightful. They definitely keep each other entertained.

Oh fun! Can I come? I promise not to force you to take my favorite home.

I hope you’ll do most of it at your local SPCA. No need spending hard earned money on animals when they give perfectly loving ones for the price of shots, etc. I hope you find animals that will give you many years of love and companionship.

We have kitties!

We looked at cats at three rescue places (all of them no-kill facilities). The kittens available just didn’t move us, but a 1 year old calico and a very slightly older tabby did. The calico is about evenly black/striped and orange/striped, with more white on her underside. She endeared herself to me by using my shoulder as a step to get from one level of a cat tree to another. She’s the lapcat of the two–very demanding and physically affectionate. The tabby is smaller by 3.5 pounds and has had to be extracted from hidey-holes for viewing, but she’s purred and relaxed a little, though she’s under the bed at the moment. Both cats are sacked out conducting a fairly cursory examination of the guest room that they’ll be sharing for about a week. I’ll take photos when they’re a little more settled.

Oohh! Cat pics soon, good deal. I love calicos and tabbies.

ETA: squee?

AWWWWWWWWWWWW. Your Burma looks a bit like my Eddie. Most definitely squee!

Aaahhhhh – they’re beautiful. Congratulations!

I can hardly bear to go to work, yet now to work I must go. Saigon is a very densely muscled, warm cat, and has been snoozing on my chest.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Now excuse me, I must go wallow in jealousy over your new additions and their sheer cuteness. I often wish I could add another kitteh or two to the family, but Himself has put his foot down and said that two is more than enough.

Sniff.

I thought cats just showed up at your do every month so you didn’t have to look for one.

Yay, kitties! I’m glad that you decided to pick older cats. I think a lot of people don’t give them a chance because kittens are so cute, but the adult ones make great pets too.

That works in some neighborhoods, but around here the only strays are actually raccoons (though happy to eat catfood).

Um…ahem…

SQUEEEEEE!  :stuck_out_tongue:    :stuck_out_tongue:
