Catch phrases fading with time

Alka-Seltzer commercial:

Seven-Up commercial (one of the best adverts ever):

Original Right Guard commercial (“Oh, hi, guy!” was in a later version):

They just don’t make 'em like this anymore… :frowning:

The first is from Woody Woodpecker; the rest are from Popeye.

I used to say this whenever my alarm went off early in the morning. It was funny at first but now my 3 kids wake me up with it!

That’s funny!
I had a high school teacher back in the 80’s who used to settle the class down by yelling “Hey, Hey, Hey!”…to which I always replied “It’s Fat Albert!”

Some fading movie catchphrases:
“Run Forrest Run!” - Forrest Gump
“That’s my name, don’t wear it out!”- My Bodyguard
“Take Off, you hoser!” - Bob and Doug McKenzie
“Lighten up Francis.” and “That’s the fact, Jack!” - Stripes
“Oh, that’s gonna leave a mark!”- Tommy Boy
“The price is wrong, bitch” - Happy Gilmore

Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, 1985.

IIRC, the phrase is “Push off!” eh? :dubious:

Peewee may have used it but Matt Dillon definitely uses it in My Bodyguard (1980) and I remember all the kids using it afterward. Apparently, it’s also used in **Grease **(1978) by Sandy Olsson.
It may also be much older.

Errr… no, it’s “Take Off (,eh)”. Bob and Doug used the euphemism often and it was the name of their hit single with Geddy Lee… from RUSH!

Aaaaaaaaayyaaaya and Sit on it! from Happy Days/The Fonz
That’s my name don’t wear it out. I don’t think that is from a particular film. If it is, it’s probably from the 40’s or earlier.

I’ve been known to randomly throw that phrase about. I stole it from the Reduced Shakespeare Company.

“I love my wife, but oh, you kid!”

Not sure of the origin, think it goes back to flapper days.

Say goodnight Gracie.

Bad Luck Schleprock, possibly the only Jewish Flintstone character.

carlin is gawd in the comedy world. the stuff he said would not be allowed on this board, he pushed the limits in a witty way that nobody else could. the seven dirty words skit i love and his rants on religion. a great man.

My kids love Mad TV so they’re familiar with this one.

Errr…was anyway. He passed over 5 years ago.

“Would you like a jelly baby?” - Doctor Who

“Well, here’s another fine mess you’ve gotten me into!”

yes carlin gone but not forgotten. ‘is gawd’ because his legacy lives on.

You’re fucking right it would.

If there’s ANY place where George Carlin could be quoted verbatim, it’s on this board.

i beg to differ. i quoted his ‘invisible man in the sky’ and got a rap for it.

It’s all about context.

Most people here would agree with his “invisible man in the sky” routine, in the appropriate context, in the appropriate thread.

Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In seems to be winning this thread. All of these were popularized by it:

Sock it to me!
You bet your sweet bippy
Look that up in your Funk & Wagnalls
Time for the Fickle Finger of Fate Award
Here comes de judge!
Verrry interesting…

And there must be many others. I would throw in “Say goodnight, Dick”

Be seeing you.
