I started a new chat room and need some people to help admin and others to drop on by and participate.
A quick Pal Talk background – it’s a place where you can cam, voice chat and text chat all in one. There are a ton of rooms to chat in but thought I would create one for those I know and care about the most, my board friends. Anyone can join in at any time.
It’s called Teeming Millions…real creative eh? I did put a small disclaimer in it though. If anyone with the Chicago Reader, Fathom or Una Boards want, I will add in short disclaimers.
Anyhow, all you need to do is go to Pal Talk and sign up for their free account, or paid if you like. Look for Teeming Millions under the Miscellaneous category and join in. But I need admins to get the show on the road.
I will be looking for admins to help me out, to keep this room active and alive as much as possible. So with that in mind I will ask that those I have known for at least 1 year email me with why you think and can help admin the room. The main rules will be 100% respect for everyone (basic rules of not being a jerk will apply) if you have specific hours you can be an admin (not really important but nice if we can have this open 24/7) and that you are over 21. I would prefer that those under 21 aren’t allowed in the room but we will play with that as time goes.
Anyhow, the room is set up and ready to go. All I need is people from admins to chatters and I can say that listening to the real voices is a kick in the pants!

Hi techchick - Perhaps a silly question, but does all this bells and whistles voice chat and camera stuff mean that one would miss half the fun if only using text, ie not keep up with rest of chatroom?

Paltalk is evil. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories from users about their spyware. Staff are apparently allowed to spy on private messages between individuals, and plus, there are certain words (such as URLs) that they have banned even in private communications between users. Besides, they keep telling people to switch to their pay version.
The chat program I’ve been using is GCN, developed by a friend of mine. It has all the advantages of Paltalk, but without spyware, nosey staff, etc. Plus, an upcoming version will have a new voice system that will be better than Paltalk’s but much cheaper (Paltalk’s greatest expense is their voice system). GCN is still small, but it’s a good program; try it out. It has instant messaging, chats, games, a browser, message boards, voice, video, whiteboards (two-person drawing), a translator, and other features. It’s free, and the only ads are on a small banner at the bottom of the screen.
