Category Five Cabling - pay scale

A friend of mine is basically as high as he can go in his current job, but has other skills that are nto being utilized and might be able to get a better job (i.e. better-paying) if he went elsewhere. Then again, he might not.

Having done a google search that turned up a bunch of hits on “category five” and “salary” and a page from 1995, does anyone have any useful links for me, or is there something I’ve overlooked? Thanks.

Punha, I have to confess your OP is not entirely clear-sounding. What exactly are you asking? Maybe if you expand upon it, I or someone can give you a helpful suggestion.

Cat 5 cabling? Does he work in I.T.?

I agree with Anthracite, give us a little more information: job title, location, what he’s looking for. I am in the middle of a massive job hunt right now and have quite a few websites bookmarked.

Installing Ethernet cabling can be quite lucrative. Any building that was not designed with networking in mind will no doubt require this type of service.

The category of cable is insignificant by the way.

However, this type of work is extremely labour-intensive. These folks earn every penny.

Having recently hired a contractor to install more network drops at my worksite (being far too lazy to do it myself), I can tell you that the range in the Houston area is between $75 and $125 per drop.

Our office is being moved next weekend. We are paying about $110/drop for Cat 5E cables in our new office in downtown DC.
