Cats and bathrooms

(Cat owners only, please)

So you need to park on the toilet for a little while. Your cat wishes to join you. What do you do?

They own the house. I only live there.

Bear doesn’t seem to mind if I watch him using the litter box (I don’t, but I could if I wanted to!) so he is welcome to visit when I am enjoying a brief stay in the Oval Office.

I don’t mind if they’re in there. But one bathroom doesn’t have a lock (we had to disable it after each family member in turn got locked in there, and it’s getting fixed this week) and the cats can open doors. However, they are unable to CLOSE doors. It’s a problem.

They should also keep their paws off the toilet paper! They usually do. Every once in awhile one of them goes crazy and we lose a whole roll.

Paws under the door–well, that’s going to be fixed, too. It’s too big a gap.

One of mine will rub against my ankles; then the other one comes in, and they have a fight on either side of the shower curtain.

mostly i have to remind her that my undies are not a new kitteh hammock … :frowning:

I said “No Ick” because I really like to be alone. In truth they’ve never shown any interest.

Our kitty has never shown interest in the bathroom either. Not to suck the tap, not to sleep in the sink, not to play with the paper, heck, not even to go in there.

For some reason my cat loves to come hang out with me while I do my business. And rub against my legs. I think it’s because he knows there will soon be delicious fresh water in the bowl.

they like to come in and say hello… and they don’t ask for lap.

Are you kidding? Sometimes when I walk down the hall one of them will try to ‘lead’ me into the bathroom (in much the same way as they ‘lead’ me to the kibble cupboard), hoping to get some laptime.

Depends - have I run out of toilet paper?

My old cats never really bothered with the bathroom - I think the slick tiles might have put them off.

Same here. The Bodoni cats view humans in a bathroom as a captive audience. I don’t help matters much because I do pick them up and cuddle them during my stay.

My daughter has one cat who MUST accompany her into the bathroom, and watch her shower. He’s afraid that she’ll go down the drain or something, I guess. He doesn’t get into the shower with her, but he’ll sit up straight and curl his tail around his body and just WATCH her.

I try not to watch them doing their business, so I appreciate a bit of privacy in return.

Bathroom time is me time. Cats can stay outside.

I close the bathroom door and turn on the fan when I’m doing “sit-down” business. Likewise, I don’t spend an extended time in there. The net result is that our cats don’t get much of an opportunity to express their opinion on the issue.

My cat is fascinated by the shower, and wants to lick your legs dry when you get out.
Weirdo.

Well… because daughter has moved in with her cat, ours and their box have moved upstairs. Their litterbox is in the master bath. They like to come in when the wife and I are using the commode… my conclusion is that they seem to like to have company when doing their business.

The (former) tomcat is a long time shower prowler after we have finished - also loves chewing on toothbrushes (peppermint toothpaste?) so now we have covers.

The cat is utterly obsessed with getting in the bathroom when I’m using it. She’ll actually sit outside and cry to be let in. I do not let her in, because I distrust anybody who wants to watch me on the toilet that bad.

Depends on the cat. They will all come in to say Good Morning. Pixel and Havoc settle for pulling down my magazine and requesting skritches. Caelan and Brindle will be more assertive, and climb into my lap (or crossed arms, since I tend to have a rather wide stance (insert Larry Craig joke here.) All of them will take the opportunity to use the catbox while they are visiting.
