Obviously our beloved Cecil is not a cat lover, which is fine. I do take exception to his assertion that cats would “die out” without humans to take care of them, including helping them pass hair. As a veterinarian for 15+ years, I can assure you, cats very rarely suffer from intestinal blockage due to hair alone. They are much more likely to have problems with string, ribbon, etc. Also, cats are the only “domesticated” species that can revert to a wild or feral state with relative ease. Of all the domesticated species, cats can easily feed and shelter themselves if necessary (with the exception of certain man made breeds such as pampered persians). In fact, if humans dropped off the face of the planet, I can assure you Feline Domesticus would survive quite nicely!!!
I agree. Many cities and towns have problems with growing feral cat populations.
Cats are masters of manipulation. They can get out of any tree they can get into, but think it’s amusing to whimper weakly to the clothed monkeys that feed them and to watch the pathetic fools roll out fire trucks to rescue those who need no rescue.
Likewise, hairballs. They like the attention they get by pretending that each one puts them at death’s door.
But at least they aren’t cloying toadies who eat their own shit and then slobber all over you, like dogs.
I like dogs in small doses. My daughter’s dogs are fun for an hour or two at a time.
Of course, to restore the balance of power in my home, I employ a ferret to annoy the cats worse than the cats annoy me.
This is probably in reference to What’s up with cat hair balls?
Cats are God’s way of showing us how annoying we are.
