This really is mundane and pointless!..
I woke up this morning and strolled into the bathroom to use the toilet, turning the light on. My cat, Casper, was sitting in the toilet in the dark. Bottom up, head down and tail curled out over the edge. I screamed in shock causing him to poke his head up slightly before going back to lap up the water.
Now, is this NORMAL?!
I feel slightly worried. I maybe should point out he does have good easy access to lots and lots of clean water!
It can be…cats are weird and will drink water from anywhere. They don’t know better that the toilet water shoudln’t be drank. Just make sure to shut the lid when it’s not in use, and scare the cat away anytime it’s near.
Really, to turn a blind eye to all those hippos and to throw a fit over the cat drinking out of the toilet seems misguided.
Well I guess there are some things in life that you just get used to, and hippos is one of them. Cats in toilets, however, is not.

I finally gave up on trying to keep the cats’ water dish filled and got one of those bowls with an inverted bottle attached so I wouldn’t have to keep refilling it.
So this morning after I took my shower one of them sat on the edge of the tub and started licking the wet wall, then jumped down and lapped at the water that hadn’t quite drained yet.
Cats is nutz.
And on a hot day, toilet bowl water can be nice and cool…
And you know this how?! :eek:

Uhh, she’s a kitten? Duh.
All my cats have insisted on drinking toilet water. Tap water is for splashing out of the dish and watching the pretty puddles form on the kitchen floor.
As an aside, I had a bunny that sat in the toilet. I could practically hear him thinking, “Well, the water table’s a little high here, but a burrow’s a burrow, y’know?” Scared the hell out of a guest who innocently plunked herself down on the bowl and felt fur rising to meet her butt.

Yup, well I wasn’t desperate yesterday morning. Sometiimes it is a case of having to run and plonk myself down but luckily for the cat yesterday I could take my time.
Yes I know, I am sorry. However I don’t tend to keep my camera with me when going to the toilet first thing in the morning. Though, i’ll keep all you dopers in mind from now on when walking to the toilet 
Yes!! That was exactly it. Tail out, bum up, head down.
I think Casper is just a bit odd in the head. He drinks from everywhere except his waterbowl. He sits by the kitchen sink hanging his mouth open under the tap waiting for drips, he licks the tarmac after it has rained, and he’ll go for anyone’s glass or mug that is filled with any kind of liquid if he gets the chance.
At least your cat is small enough to move out of your way when you have a potty emergency. My dog is built like a small tank, and as soon as he knows someone is getting ready to befoul his “water bowl”, he will rapidly waddle past them to get to it first. If you try to pull him away, he hooks his otherwise arthritic paws around the rim.
Have you ever had the misfortune to sit down when the seat was up? You’d know…
