I’m not a big CD buyer, but there aren’t really any good stores around where I live either, and I’ve been itchin’ to pick up some things I’ve wanted for years now.
Could y’all suggest one or two good on-line CD store-type things?
Thanks!

If I can’t find what I want in some of the local stores or can’t wait until I get a chance to go to one, I usually go to Tower Records.
Their prices are good. Customer service has always been good. Lots of stuff on sale. They have a great selection.
This is where I usually shop for gifts for my brother who lives on the other coast, not near any good music stores.
(Damn… now I want to browse there for a while.)
If its stuff that’s been out for a while, then you can’t beat alldirect.com 's prices.
Damn. I thought this was the Uriah Heep appreciation thread and you made a typo. Guess I gotta read the Thread Starter stuff.
I’ve used cdnow.com. They have lots of sound samples.
I used to use CDNOW, but they seem to have raised their prices on anything interesting to $2-$3.00 more than I could pay at my local CD shop. Their normal price for CDs now seems to be between 16-18 dollars each, plus 2+ dollars shipping.
I seem to recall that they were having financial problems and they seem to have responded by raising their prices to the point of destruction.
If I want to spend $20.00 on a CD, I’ll patronize the local specialty CD shop and at least support the local economy, thanks.
Also, far too many of their sound clips don’t work on the Mac. What’s wrong with having an MPEG format as well as real audio (ugh) and Windows Media?
There’s a new site called Deep Discount CD. I haven’t used them myself, but I have used their sister site, Deep Discount DVD with very satisfactory results.
Amazon is a good place to start. I like that now you can link to individuals selling used CDs (what they call “marketplace sellers”) on many many albums.
I also like Spun for used stuff.
Try Red Trumpet and Music Direct for rare/audiophile CDs and vinyl.
Sounds like a good start. Thanks folks.
half.com can also yield some pretty decent prices if you don’t mind buying used.
