CD won't load into iTunes, copy does.

I was putting some more music into iTunes yesterday. When I first got this computer there was a certain disc I wanted to upload. (Yeah, I just had to get Haysi Fantayzee’s Shiny, Shiny and The Fun Boy Three’s The Lunatics Have Taken Over The Asylum onto the iPod.) Only my computer (G4 PowerBook) wouldn’t load the CD. So yesterday, after failing again, I put the CD into the PC and used Nero to burn another copy onto another CD. This CD loaded onto the Mac with no problems.

Why would the original CD not load, and then eject, while a copy of it would?

It’s possible that the cd medium is just not quite cooperating with your drive. I’ve noticed the cd drive on my iBook tends to be less forgiving than the drive in my PC. I’ve also had a (burned) DVD that wouldn’t play in any set-top DVD player, but the copy I made plays just fine anywhere.

The other suspect is copy protection. If the first cd was stamped, it’s possible that there’s some wonky copy protection relying on that. If Nero knows about that kind of copy protection, it might just ignore it while making a copy or be unable to reproduce it.

I’d think that even with copy protection it would at least load so that I could play it. Instead the Mac sucks it into the slot, chews on it for about 30 seconds, and then ejects it. The original CD plays fine on a stereo, and on the PC. I haven’t tried to play the burned copy on a stereo, since I only made it in a (successful) attempt to get it onto iTunes.
