If you’re using these numbers for a comparison you’re in trouble because they measure different things. An mp3 is typically analagous to a single track on a CD, which averages, what, maybe 10 tracks? (And some CD’s have many more – I have one CD with 40+ tracks.) So although I have about 75 CD’s and perhaps 20 mp3’s, the total number of tracks I have on the CD format is overwhelmingly larger than in mp3.

I’ve had my CD collection stolen 3 times within the past 6 or 7 years, so I’ve had the great pleasure of buying the same CDs over and over again.
Assuming that you mean commercially bought CDs, we have 30.
Assuming that by MP3s you mean individual tracks, we have about 1,500. (Burned onto about 110 CDs, so you see why I’m giving you specifics.)
Now, for your project, are you also interested in how many cassettes and albums we have? Because from the above, you may assume that a large part of my music is pirated. But we have a large collection of vinyl and cassettes at home.

Since I gained the means of downloading MP3s and burning CDs, I have bought only one commercial CD, simply because I couldn’t find it in MP3 format. I rarely MP3-ify my CDs unless it’s a song I really like (I gotta have that stereo for SOMETHING), and the vast majority of my MP3s are downloaded from Gnutella (I am downloading 2 as I type this).
