Cd's Vs. Mp3's (Please Answer This!)

It’s not a poll of which you think is better, but how many mp3’s do you have, and how many cd’s do you have? This is for my stat homework, so that’s why I asked for a please answer. Thanks!

48 cds

181 mp3s
I like both. I download mp3s and if I really dig them, I eventually buy the CD.

378 MP3s

27 CDs

There is a significant overlap, though, as something like 300 of my MP3s come from my CDs.

About 90 CDs

About 700 mp3s

I love mp3s. Most of the stuff I have on mp3 is either rare, incredibly hard to find, or a good song on a lousy album.

110 CDs
140 MP3s

I’ve also got a question. What are you trying to figure out in this survey? That is, what do expect to learn from doing this? (I’m asking cause I’ve got an AP Stat class now and I can only learn more by asking these questions.)

278 cds
3500 mp3s

~450 CDs
~5000 MP3s

I also have a lot of overlap between the two formats.

588 MP3s
2 commercially produced audio CDs.

10,000 MP3s
125 CDs

450 CDs
1200 MP3s

8 cds
850 mp3s

118 CDs
500+ MP3s

45 CD’s
1000 mp3’s

Well over 7,500 CD’s
5 Mp3’s.

I do have a bunch of Mp5’s (SHN) though, then again nobody asked.

All the CDs I actually listen to have been converted to MP3 format. All the CDs my girlfriend has that I listen to have been converted to MP3. All the cassette tapes I still had that I used to listen to (and now do once again) have been digitized and saved in MP3 format. The remaining vinyl albums that had not been replaced by CDs or recorded onto cassette tapes that I still remembered fondly have been digitized and saved in MP3 format, too. Oh yeah, I confess, I did download a few, too.

Meanwhile, all my MP3s (except the most recent set) have been burned as data CDs for playback on my PowerBook, which plugs into my NAD amp and my aging but still-capable Fisher speakers
and replaces all cassette players and CD players and record players.

The last MP3-CD I burned was “Disk O” (any similarities to “disco” being superficial), so that’s 15 CDs’ each holding the equivalent of about 10 audio CDs. I carry all 15 around with me wherever I go. (I have backup copies in case they get stolen).

…and after all that verbiage, I didn’t really answer the question! OK, 15 x 10 x (average number of tracks per CD?) 10 is probably around 1500 MP3s I guess.

I suppose I have 25 or 30 CDs of the plain old audio variety.

CD’s: 124
MP3’s: 5100 or so

I do rip CD’s for friends and typically keep a copy of the MP3’s, so that counts for much of my disparity…

212 CDs
240 MP3s

I am not sure of the amount - but I think I have several hundred LPs, a few hundred CDs (many which overlap the LPs) and a few hundred MP3s. Probably about 90% of the MP3s are either recorded from my CDs, or are duplicates of what I have on LP.

I have not set up my computer to create MP3s from my old LPs. So I did do a lot of searching and downloading of music (in MP3 form) that I had on LP. (For instance, I downloaded the whole set of MP3s from the Jerry Goldsmith score “Link”, which I have on LP, but have not found on CD. And so on.)

To summarize, I (at one time) purchased the musical source of about 90% of my MP3 collection. MP3s are a nice convenience. Eventually (especially if the price goes down) I may spring for the iPod.
