My mother is currently using celebrex for her arthritic knees, but
has since developed terrible upset stomachs.
Is this an advertized side-effect? Any celebrex dopers experience
this?
IANAD, but I’ve taken Celebrex for bad knees. One of the major advantages of Celebrex (and Vioxx, its cousin) is that stomach upset isn’t as much of a problem. However, some people will still get upset stomach. What I do when I take any kind of pain medicine is to take it with a meal. It usually helps with any kind of stomach upset.
HOWEVER, (and this is a biggie) all non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) can cause stomach bleeding. If the discomfort continues, she should see her doctor to have this evaluated, and she should definitely mention the discomfort at her next visit, in case it’s not linked to the medication.
