Celebrities remembered for incidental career points

Brought to mind by Edward Hermann’s death. News leads usually mention “Gilmore Girls,” 'but he had a long and successful career in more distinguished projects.
Similarly: Joe DiMaggio, Mr. Coffee
George Foreman - Foreman Grill
William Daniels - Wonder Years

Who else occurs to people?

Bob Dole - Depends

I’d suggest doing the voice of KITT on Knight Rider was his incidental career point.

Didn’t Dole do ads for a limp willy pill?

What is the connection here?

Jessie White had a long distinguished career… but he will always be The Maytag Repairman

as did

Dick Wilson… AKA Mr. Whipple

He had a great scene on Boy Meets World, with that kid from Wonder Years who plays a professor who makes inappropriate advance to Topganga.

Harry Von Zell, died in 1981 after a long and distinguished career in radio and TV announcing. The first sentence of his obit? Recalled how in 1931 he introduced the then-President of the United States as “Hoobert Heever”.

Fifty years, and he STILL hadn’t lived it down.

Ben Stein isn’t really an actor. (Well, duh.)

He’s a lawyer, political commentator, writer, etc. He used to write speeches for Nixon and such. He still does the hack talking heads shows.

After that Bueller thing (his second role), he sort of became an actor. Mainly voice work. But also a game show host. For which he co-won an Emmy.

Sorry. Boy Meets World, Wonder Years, I get them mixed up. I never watched either one.

Art Linkletter, Ed McMahon and Alex Trebek for pimping life insurance for geezers.

I’ve been watching a lot of daytime television during this holiday week and wonder why someone like Alex Trebek would do those commercials. I know that Ed McMahon had financial issues, so he needed the money but presumably Alex Trebek is well compensated by the game show.

(BTW, another such person is Fred Thompson, who does commercials for reverse mortgages aimed at seniors.)

John Wilkes Booth – Assassinating Lincoln

Charlton Heston – NRA

What’s the connection between Joe DiMaggio and Mr. Coffee?

Joltin’ Joe did ads for Mr. Coffee, back in the 1970s IIRC. Joltin’ Joe for a cup of Joe - my line, not from the commercial. I’m trying to be clever.

Sad but true. For many of us he will always be Marvin Wilson. (The Egg & Onion Sandwich aficionado in Harvey.)

David Carradine will always be the guy who choked himself while choking himself.

Robert Vaughn may have been acting since the 60s but I always remember him as Joe Bornstein/ Mark E. Salomone.

Harrison Ford used to be a carpenter. This became an in-joke in Witness.

Wilford Brimley has had a long and distinguished Hollywood career, but an entire generation only knows him for Diabeetus.
