Celebrities remembered for incidental career points

I believe that Christopher Lee may have had one or two acting jobs before taking on the role of Saruman.

Am I the only one who remembers Captain Nice?

A rumour that he stuck a gerbil up his butt.

And that he and Cindy Crawford both were gay ( but not for each other - it doesn’t work that way…)

The question in this classic SD column:
And he’s no damn gerbil stuffer.

was likely referring to Gere’s supposed prediliction.

Harvey The Heavy beat me to it, but I was linking of Art Linkletter for The Game of Life. “I heartily endorse this game.”

…and I might be dating myself, but Jane Withers as Josephine the Plumber advertising Comet.

“You like me! You really, really like me!”

I am very disappointed in you. Why would you do such a thing?

:stuck_out_tongue:

My nominee: Phil Spector, the OJ of record producers. Actually, come to think about it, Robert Blake is a better OJ analogy - won the criminal trial, lost the civil trial.

To the OP, when I told people of Edward Herrmann’s death (or previously, when I would talk about enjoying his acting), most people were oblivious as I ticked thru Gilmore Girls & his three stints as FDR until I finally said “The Vampire Dad from The Lost Boys.”

Except for one girl who was still a bit fuzzy until I added he was Richie Rich’s Dad.

I think you overestimate the impact of TJ Hooker on the Millennial zeitgeist.

Sorry, he’s the Man From U.N.C.L.E.

I dunno, the scene where he put the other gangster’s head in a vice was hardly genteel.

Nonsense. You’re all disregarding the historic impact The Shatner Project on the DIY Network, a thrilling documentary series on the remodeling of his home, will have on the future of renovation shows.

Shatner is so batty that not only did I watch that, but I was very entertained.

Rock star Brian May - astronomer, worked with Sir Patrick Moore
Physicist & TV presenter Professor Brian Cox - rock star.

Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden fame - he was an Olympic-class fencer and flies passenger jets.

There’s Jerry Lewis and his transition from comedian to telethon king.

Not sure what counts as “incidental career points” in OP’s question, but if this one does, then I have to add

Danny Thomas, hugely successful entertainer, nightclubs, albums, movies, TV show, start and creator… but he will always be best know for ST Jude’s.

Of course you couldn’t ask for a better legacy

his daughter Marlo also known for acting and St. Judes.

It seems Paul McCartney might become best remembered for his duet with Kanye West.

Who? That girl?

Couldn’t have been as brilliant as Invasion Iowa

Arthur “Two Sheds” Jackson—remembered only for the second shed he never built. It’s forgotten there was also a symphony…
