Celebrities who don't do endorsements

Nowadays, it seems almost required for most celebrities to participate in advertising campaigns. Singers and athletes are the most common, but even serious actors have been willing to make a few bucks on the side selling products in Japan.

So who are the celebrities who haven’t sold out? We’ll discount a celebrity selling his or her own product. And let’s ignore any celebrities so minor that nobody’s offered them the opportunity.

Well, I haven’t seen Haley Joel Osment pitching anything but his movies. I don’t think Tom Cruise has done so, either.

Dennis Franz. He does not do ads. I heard him tell his agent so.

NoGoodNames beat me to the punch- I was going to say, be VERY careful before you state categorically that any given celeb “doesn’t do advertisements.” Some very big names who’d never do commercials in the U.S. do them overseas.

You know, so many rice crackers claim to be lo-cal, but only Fujiyama rice crackers make your interiors go bananas. What did I do to deserve this? Oh, yeah.

[This article](www.thehindu.com/thehindu/fr/2002/06/ 21/stories/2002062101410100.htm) names Cruise as one of the American celebrities that has done endorsements in Japan.

I believe Tom Waits refuses to do commercials. A few years ago he sued Frito-Lay for copying his voice in a commercial; he is strongly opposed to musicians who sell their music, saying at the time “If Michael Jackson wants to work for Pepsi, why doesn’t he just get himself a suit and an office in their headquarters and be done with it.” (cite, cite)

Bill Hicks probably didn’t do any either while alive, judging by his act which claimed anyone who did a commercial was “off the artistic rollcall”. Sadly Dennis Leary never ripped off that portion of his act.

In Britain, comedian and writer Ben Elton refuses to do commercials. However that doesn’t stop him working with collaborators like Andrew Lloyd-Webber (whose politics and aesthetics seem to represent everything Elton was once opposed to).

I don’t think Tim Robbins does 'em.
