Er… Bon Scott died in a car. Does that count?
Milton Brown helped invent Western Swing. But he died after a wreck in Fort Worth back in 1936, leaving the field to Bob Wills.
The high harmonies of the Louvin Brothers were loved by Gram Parsons, Emmylou & many others. I’ve got to quote Wikipedia here:
Don Richplayed lead guitar & fiddle with Buck Owens’ Buckaroos. And sang harmony. Crashed his bike in California in 1974; after that, it was all Hee Haw for Buck.
Clarence White, bluegrasser & pioneer of country rock, was killed by a drunk driver while loading equipment–back in 1973. Gram Parsons’ “In My Hour of Darkness” was partly dedicated to him–& to Brandon deWilde, already mentioned. (Honest, I knew this before checking Wikipedia–it’s the dates & stuff that I forget.)
Oh, and Richard Fariña fell off the back of a motorcycle in 1966.
Now–which of these guys has been mentioned while I was composing this tl;dr?
Fred Mills, who for several decades played trumpet in the Canadian Brass.
