Celebritites who are/were universally despised by their peers

As counterbalance to the current nice guy thread, who are/were the famously hated celebrities?

A few that come to mind:

Shannon Doherty

Chevy Chase

Val Kilmer
From previous eras:

Rex Harrison

Andy Griffith

Bette Davis
Others?

Andy Griffith? Say it ain’t so!

Katherine Heigl is supposedly a huge pain in the ass.

Sean Young has a lot of bad press for her actions.
Marlon Brando was notoriously difficult in his latter years.

Yes, he was very difficult. AND Frances Bavier. Aint Bee was a bitch IRL.

Fred - William Frawley? - on I Love Lucy?

Aint Bee I could see, but Anj? Next your going to tell me Otis was stone cold sober the whole time. But seriously, some dirt please?

Although Vivian Vance (Ethel) hated Frawley, he was pretty good friends with Desi. Not sure what Lucy thought of him, but most other actors seemed to dislike him.

Going back to the other thread there was Ted Healy, and one of his possible assailants Wallace Beery.

“Celebrity” these days can often involve seeking out other people’s contempt as a means of building one’s image as a “controversial” character - what the heck, it’s one way of making a living. In the UK, you could try

Katie Hopkins
Josie Cunningham

In the world of The-ah-tah I believe Sir Ben Kingsley has been thought to be overfond of insisting on his title.

Tom Neal, a raging scumbag who connected with barfly Barbara Payton. Destined to be a typical murder/suicide love match, worthy of historical footnote only because of minor roles in film. But she somehow hooked Franchot Tone, whom Neal beat to within an inch of his life.

Lindsay Lohan, for obvious reasons.

Mike Myers also has a reputation for being moody and controlling.

In the Pathfinder world I am creating, there’s a backwoods area where I’ve placed the town of Gooseberry. Sheriff Andy Tyler is a Wererat who keeps the peace by eliminating troublemakers (ala Hott Fuzz). Aunt Bee is his aunt, a 10th level Witch, who is the biggest gossip and know-it-all in the area, keeps a positive public face, but is secretly in league with the Hags. Her ultimate goal is to join Mother Dreadful, the most powerful Dread Hag around. Gumbo and his cousin Golly Wash run the stable and livery, Howard Spruce owns the Mill, and then of course, there’s Floyd the Barber (low level adept).

Vance hated him because he didn’t seem to be a serious actor to her, and he made her the butt of some jokes. I haven’t heard that he was universally despised, but he was an alcoholic and it’s likely he lost a lot of friends that way. He promised Desi he would always show up to work on time and sober, and all indications are that he was true to his word.

Damon Runyon was another hard drinker and his life crossed Frawley’s to create a show biz legend. Frawley was the first person to sing My Melancholy Baby in a Broadway show. Damon Runyon was drunk and in the audience and afterwards called out several times “Play Melancholy Baby”, this became an ongoing joke for years afterward with drunks asking to hear the song.

Everything I have read about him points to Steven Seagal as a huge asshole and bully

After he died, she referred to him as one of her dearest friends in the business, though whether that was simply ‘don’t speak ill of the dead’ and PR or actually reflected her actual personal feelings is not entirely clear to me.

And in his early years.

When he did the taxicab scene in On the Waterfront, he insisted Rod Steiger remain with him when Brando did his closeups so Brando could play off him. Once they were done, Brando went home, leaving Steiger to give his lines to a stagehand.

Nobody has mentioned bill shatner yet. So I will, thanks.

Andy Dick

Milton Berle

I don’t think there’s anyone who can dispute that.

Ryan Gosling is apparently a prima donna. He had a fight with Rachel McAdams during their on again-off again fling on the set of THE NOTEBOOK and tried to get her fired, and when the producers told him to get over it and do his job he refused to do any scenes with her that day. He would only act with somebody reading her lines off-camera.
