Of course down in San Jose they should remove Norm Mineta’s name and insert Dionne Warwick’s. Everyone knows the way to San Jose goes straight through her.
Not surprised an airport is being named after Queen Elizabeth II. I am surprised it is in Paris
Another real one is Cristiano Ronaldo airport in Madeira Portugal
I’d sooner expect some hybrid name like Oakland / Northern California Bay Area Regional Airport. An ugly mouthful, but it’s descriptive. Without mentioning the dreaded “SF” word.
I think OAK’s real problem isn’t its name, it’s the fact that if you go to Expedia or Kayak or your favorite travel booking site and enter “San Francisco” as your destination, it will only show you flights to SFO by default. If you want to see flights to OAK as well, you have to specifically check the “also search nearby airports” box. Whereas if you search for flights to “New York” without specifying a specific airport, it will return flights to LaGuardia, JFK, and Newark. As I understand it that’s all because IATA considers all three of those airports to be New York airports, but they consider SFO and OAK to be two completely different destinations. Even though OAK is about as close to San Francisco as Newark is to New York.

Le Touquet is over 100 miles from Paris - it’s a resort on the Channel coast close to the Straits of Dover. Which is why it was once popular with British tourists.
One side-effect of this decision is that it presumably rules out any possibility that one of the big London airports will be named after her, which a few people have suggested. That’s probably for the best, as the London airports are all already well-known by their current names. It’s not as if there is any particular shortage of other things named after her in London.

You are correct, I should have been more careful and said an airport that serves Paris instead of one “in” Paris…
The name of the airport is “Touquet-Paris-Plage airport” The name is designed to make passengers who want to go to pris head there. Discount airlines not willing to pay high airport fees at CDG or Orly will fly to Le Touquet instead promoting it as a flight to Paris hoping that passengers will not realise the time and cost required to get Paris once they land until it is too late. It is common prctice in Europe , Lo Touquet may be the worst example but plenty of aitport are around 50 miles from the city they are said to serve.
