BTW, does anybody else notice that the SDMB seems to pick up a lot of new members (temporarily at least) around this time of the year? I think the Death Pool draws people in like nothing else!

And a big SDMB

Welcome!
from all of us to all of you!

With one week to go I’m going to put a few notes out here.

Two posters, shadken and Doug T, are still one player short on their lists.

Sisty-six players have joined, and I imagine there will be a rush the last couple of days. Thanks so much for making me work hard on my birthday!!!:p:D

So far, the top five celebrities chosen are

Valerie Harper 24
Lindsay Lohan 21
George H.W. Bush 17
Fidel Castro 16
Jimmy Carter 11

They total over 10% of the total points. The total of celebrities chosen is 498, with 376 of those being unique.

So far there has been only one questioning of the celebrity status of a choice, and that was done by PM, to keep any possible resentment out of a fun thread about death. The challenger knows who they are, and I thank them for being discreet. In past years there have been challenges because a chosen one’s status has seemed too “Local” Since the choice of celebrity was made over a week before the deadline, and not just before midnight on the 31st, anyone would be free to look up the names, and choose them as well. So I let the name stand.

It’s interesting to see how the top 13 choices so far compare to those of last year. The biggest change is, of course, the inclusion of Valerie Harper.:frowning: Aretha Franklin is a lot further down this year, and Pope Emeritus Benedict has moved up. Zsa Zsa has kept her foot in the door at the top, and Ariel Sharon is hanging in there.

I don’t know whether to keep former list, with revisions, for this year, or try a different strategy. I played one list here, and with two celebrities gone I have a grand total of three points. On another board I have nine points, from a differing list, for Eleanor Parker.

Keep on researching!

Subscribing to the thread whilst I get my list together.

  1. Boris Spassky (World Chess Champion 1969-1972)
  2. Bob Dylan (Knockin’ at heaven’s door)
  3. Viktor Yushchenko (Former Ukranian President who survived radioactive poisoning)
  4. Gary Busey (Apparently has the constitution of Rasputin, but even a cat only has 9 lives)
  5. Chuck Wepner (aka, the Bayonne Bleeder and inspiration for Rocky)
  6. Ron Jeremy (Old pornstars don’t just fade away)
  7. Jerry Lee Lewis (He’s had a great run, but…)
  8. Jerry Lewis (Figured I’d grab both, to avoid confusion)
  9. Kevin Smith (A not so excellent adventure for Silent Bob)
  10. Al Molinaro (No more Happy Days)
  11. Honor Blackman (Pussy Galore to all you Goldfinger fans)
  12. Erin Moran (I actually feel bad about betting on Joanie Cunningham, it’s 47 points)
  13. Phil Robertson (Homophobic patriarch from Duck Dynasty, and he’s got to be a target of some LGBT hit squad)
    On deck
    Clint Howard (Ron’s brother)
Nik Wallenda (following in the family tradition)
Alan Young ( Soon to be reunited with his beloved Mr. Ed, of course, of course)
