Celebrity Death Pool 2014

Anyway, gout isn’t generally fatal.

Unfortunately.

This goes back to 03 January but I wanted to share this even though it’s not the most timely of posts, but it’s timely for 2014 deaths. I seem to be on a “Marine Corps kick” lately with recent posts, maybe that’s what’s driving this one.

The Everly Brothers, Don Everly and Phil Everly, are US Marines. They went to boot camp in October 1961 at MCRD, San Diego, and graduated in 1962. Don Everly got married in his Dress Blues right after he graduated boot camp in the Base Chapel. They were allowed longer hair than Marine Corps regulations permitted because of their fame (their rendition of Bye Bye Love had reached #2 in the spring of 1957).

From February 1962 while in the Marine Corps, here’s a video and a picture of them singing Crying in the Rain in their Dress Blues uniform on the Ed Sullivan Show. They were on leave at the time. This was one of their few public performances during their Marine Corps years.

Don and Phil were in the 11th Marine Artillery Regiment at Camp Pendleton and would entertain the troops from time to time.

Pretty cool.

Just how old is Kim anyway? The NK is so closemouthed about the family, at least their age and health.

According to the wikithing, he would be worth 69 points. If he lives as long as dad, and stays in power, that would be most of 4 decades to wait for a score.

Heaven help us all if that happens.

No shit. I don’t know if I keep this game up for another forty years.

Of course, staying in power is intimately connected with living that long. NK could, conceivably, become unstable, which could pose a serious hazard to -un’s longevity. Those sorts of things happen from time to time, often when one least expects them. Did anyone get any points for Muammar K-(unspellable name)?

If I remember correctly, two players had him. But I don’t have the records for who, because that was 2011 and I didn’t take over being the DeathMistress until 2012.

So as the Great Successor you’re disavowing all knowledge of the activities of the previous regime?

That’s an interesting way to look at it!

(goes to check on the validity of SV’s choices):stuck_out_tongue:

The year he died was the first year I DIDN’T have him.

My Death Pool list has a theme song.

My friend’s daughter submitted a list to me, as her parents were not keen on having a 12-year-old join the SDMB and participate in the pool. I figured, as a 2-time Top-10 finisher, and one who carefully researched and sculpted my list for 2014, I would school this novice.

After 75% of the year, she is beating me 6-0 (Pete Seeger).

I really need some of my picks to “cash it in”…

Just out of curiosity, what were the kid’s other choices?

My friend put you up to this, right?

Aretha Franklin
Bruce Jenner
Fiedel Castro
Judy Blume
Elizabeth ll
Mohammed Ali
Pete Seeger
Barbara Bush
John Goodman
Valerie Harper
Ian Mckellen
Glen Campbell
Pat Summitt

Former Haitian dictator ‘Baby Doc’ Duvalier dies at 63

In a Cafe Society thread, installLSC reports

RIP musician Paul Revere

My attempt at getting in the handbasket:
Raiders lead singer, Mark Lindsay, often mistakenly believed to be Paul Revere, was buried in error. Official regret this mix-up.

In related news, the NFL announced that this would not affect the Raiders, as they’ve been dead since since 2003.

If Paul Revere is cremated, will his ashes be spread:

  1. if by land;

  2. if by sea?

And you on the opposite shore shall be?
