DOH! Thanks Tangent.
:dubious:
Let’s see, who’s left on my list? If Muhammad Ali or Valerie Harper or Rob Ford died, I think we’d all know about it. Joost van der Westhuizen made the top 13 for 2016, so I’m sure that if he’d snuck under the wire for 2015, there’d be some conversation in the 2016 thread. And Google’s showing nothing new about Clive James, Wilko Johnson, or Helen Fawkes - not that Fawkes would do me any good, since she’s also on Registered At Last’s 2015 list.
Well, that’s why we play the game. At any rate, I’m hoping the trio of Joey Feek, Martin Crowe, and Joost van der Westhuizen can give me a base of just over 150 points - though I’d have a lot of competition, since not only are they on 64, 22, and 16 lists, but all three are on at least 10 lists including mine. But if I can pick up another corpse or two from there, I should at least be in the top 10, so I feel I’ve at least got a decent chance of contending again.
Of course, all these folks could find miracle cures. Seems to happen a lot these days - people who were given 3 or 6 months to live, get some new treatment or drug, and they’re doing fine 3-4 years later. (And good for them - better that they live and I have a crummy Death Pool year than the other way around. :))
Hi! Baker, you don’t have the final results.
Dal Richards died 19 minutes before 2016 began, Pacific Standard Time, December 31 2015.
Dal Richards is trending on Twitter as of this typing.
Globe and Mail Obit
End sentence of linked page above: “His family sang “Auld Lang Syne” to him on the Dec 30 because they didn’t think he’d last until another full day. He died at 11:41 p.m. on Dec 31.”
If he died just before midnight PST then it was already 2016 by CST, when entries begin and end.
Out of curiosity, has anyone ever scored a mere one point in the death pool before? Two points is pretty low for a non-zero score, right?
Well, the carnage is over for another year. Since nobody seems to have found any last minute points I’m going to go ahead and get this out now.
Registered at Last has emerged the winner! Yay! They narrowly beat RTFirefly, by a measly four points.
All hail Registered at Last!!! Huzzah!!!
Sixty-five celebs kicked the bucket, with forty-three of those being unique.
This year I declared the Opening Kickoff award to be a tie. ** It’s Not Rocket Surgery** had Jeff Golub and Little Pig had Mario Cuomo. Both Golub and Cuomo passed on 1/1/2015. Talk about creepy!
The “Quantity Not Quality” Award is shared by ** Registered at Last** and Andrew21, who both had seven celebrities kick the bucket.
The “Inside Track with the Grim Reaper” award goes to ** Andrew21**, whose seven picks were all unique. Probably because they garnered absolutely no points, all being over one hundred years of age.
Last but not least, ** Loach** wins the “Final Hours” award, for their choice of Lemmy Kilmister…
Your humble Death Mistress tied with a number of others for last place.

Who won the Robbing the Cradle award for the youngest pick?
Woo hoo my first award!
Congratulations, RAL! Well done well done!
Three hundred points, wow! Has anyone ever gotten such a high score?
I had two die within a week and nobody else the whole year. smdh
The Vorlon was poised to win it with Bobbi Kristina Brown at one point. Did anyone go one better?
Baker - I initially misread Rico’s post #2201 to just be noting a death of passing interest, but on second look he was saying that he’d missed a death for points earlier in the year.
Boyd K. Packer, on Rico’s list, died at age 90 on July 3, and since Rico reported his death on 12/30, he should get the 10 points.
Above ground. snerk
I too misread your post. So you do get ten points, a leap from a multi way last place finish, to 88th place all by yourself!!!

One check on this list is that if you treat the a*b after each name as a product, and sum the products, the total should be the same as if you add up the points of all the players on Baker’s list of everyone’s final score. This is because you’re adding up the same points, grouped differently - by player (Baker’s list) or corpse (mine). And both lists sum to 6766 points, so it should be good.
The one thing this check wouldn’t catch is deaths for zero points, but AFAICT Andrew 21 was the only player who had any of those, and all seven of his supercentenarian (using the term loosely) corpses are on this list.
One interesting stat is that the celebs who died this year were, on average almost four years older than those in 2013 and 2014. This skewing was probably as a result of Andrew21’s picks.
This game is like baseball, lots of numbers to make into lots of statistics.
My favorite would be the corpse that generated the most points, and what fraction of the year’s total points that was.
For 2015, that would be Sam Simon, with 47 people getting his 41 points, for a total of 1927 of this year’s 6766 points, or 28.5% of all points scored in the 2015 Death Pool.
If our expectations of Joey Feek’s mortality are more or less on target, both the points and the percentage should easily be surpassed in 2016, as 64 people would each get the 60 points she’d yield if she dies by September 8, for 3840 total points. (3776 points if she dies between 9/9 and 12/31.)
I am one sick puppy. Now I’m playing with the records from past years.
For 2013 Hugo Chavez garnered the most points, 3066, for 35.4% of the total.
In contrast, for 2014 Ariel Sharon yielded the most, 360 points for a measly 10.8% of total points.
2012—172 players
2013—175 players
2014—165 players
2015—150 players
2016—140 players
I guess as a group the Dope is getting more sensitive.
or tired of being at the bottom of the heap at year’s end
