There has to be some thrill in scoring a whole two points. Why am I not last on the score list?
Because Andrew21’s supercentenarians keep on dropping like flies. Who’d’a thunk it?
I did, actually - I mused briefly in last year’s thread about doing a themed list of supercentenarians (what did I have to lose, I figured - I was going 0 for 2014 anyway), but when December rolled around, I forgot all about that and put together a traditional list. Not that I’m regretting that decision in the least, given where I am in the standings, but I am vicariously enjoying Andrew’s success nonetheless. It seems to be the way to go if you want to rack up a lot of unique corpses.
A few years ago I put together a list of people at least 95 years old, that had been in the movie industry. I got three points that year, for two people. Those old folks cling to life. Of course one on my list passed four days after that year’s contest was over.
See, there was your mistake - you needed a list of people over, say, 107. Of course, you wouldn’t have been able to do the showbiz theme then. (I remember that list, btw.)
TV director Richard Bare, who directed 166 episodes of “Green Acres” between 1965 and 1971, died this week at age 101.
Did Andrew21 have him on his list?
I think he was too young for Andrew21’s list.
Tru dat! There’s only one person younger than 107 on Andrew’s list (or that would have been <107 if s/he’d lived), and he’ll turn 107 in August. (If he lives to then, of course.)
Their local fire departments definitely don’t want the (remaining) folks on his list to celebrate their birthdays with a full complement of candles on their cakes.
Betty Willis, designer of the iconic Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign, has shot craps for the last time. She was either 91 or 92 according to her wiki bio. I hope it was 92 so she can double down.
Aha, a prime candidate for the Quantity not Quality award. I had confused myself on the scoring so thank you for the clarification.
Time to start my 2016 planning!
Rumor has it NASCAR Announcer Steve Byrnes has died. I haven’t yet found a print link for confirmation.
[del]W00t! 44 points for me![/del]my sympathies to his family.
I hope Swampbear did not have him. He is so justifiably proud of last place.
Steve, thanks for the points but sad to see you go.
RIP!

Joseph Phelps has gone to that great tasting room in the sky. I have never had a bad bottle of Joseph Phelps wine. If you’re ever in Napa, stop by to see a beautiful vineyard.
Rosie wasn’t a riveter?!?
From the link:
I’d never seen a pic of the Norman Rockwell ‘Rosie’ painting before. I’d always taken it for granted that the “We Can Do It” poster was “Rosie the Riveter.”
In fact, that’s what pops up in Google Images when you Google “Rosie the Riveter.” So I guess I’m hardly the only one.
Not only are you not the only one, but at a past Sweet Adelines competition, one of the choruses (over 100 women) all dressed liked the We Can Do It poster and sang “Rosie the Riveter”.
The history of Rosie the Riveter is here. (Scroll down to the section entitled, “Images”). Appears there were many different contributors to this character.
