I may be old, my hearing is gone, I can barely see past the sea of floaters in my eyes, I have fits of dementia, irrational anger and periodic blackouts, I doze off unexpectedly and have already forgotten more than I ever knew, but at least I still have my drivers license.
Beth Howland, Accident-Prone Waitress From the Sitcom Alice,’Dies at 74. Ooops… Ouch… Crash…BaNg…BoOm…
- She was a “Dish” and was married to [url=“https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_J._Pollard.”]this knucklehead.[\url]
Aw, I liked ‘Vera.’
Oh, and the article you linked says that she died on December 31, 2015. So, not eligible for this year’s Death Pool.
They married when she was 19. At the time of her death she was married to Charles Kimbrough who played anchorman Jim Dial on Murphy Brown.
You should get an honorary point for that!
Damn Tangent! Nice catch. How the Hell did I miss that?
The obit states that, “(Her husband) had refrained from announcing her death earlier in keeping with her wishes.”
What did she say? “Wait until May 24th of 2016 to make the announcement?”. - How inconsiderate of her towards SDMB Dead Poolers? Sheesh!
Geez it’s sad that Beth Howland (Vera Louise Gorman) is gone.
She played such a naive, innocent and very lovable character - and she did it well.
RIP “Vera”
I wonder why some families decide not to have a service or memorial at all. My boss owns two cafes. His other baker died of a heart attack a couple of years ago. Seemed to be a nice guy, but his family, siblings I think, didn’t even have a death announcement in the paper, much less an obituary or a service. I’ve seen that with other people too.
Here in my city there is a Catholic high school that has a chapter of the Joseph of Arimathea Society. I’d never heard of them until the paper carried an article on their service. The young people provide pall bearer assistance to families who have nobody able to do it, or for people who die alone. They attend the service and help carry the coffin, then will pray afterwards. I imagine it could be a comfor to those who have no family to speak of.

Momma and Mis Peach cartoonist Mell Lazarus at 89.
How many days before we can be sure he’s not coming back?
:dubious:
His last name is the clue
Also does he have a friend named Jesus and sisters named Mary and Martha?
Depends on whether Keith Richards decides to roll his stone away.
:dubious:
Did your mom not warn you that if you keep doing that your face will get stuck in that expression?
He probably got tired of people asking, “Where’s Beth these days? Did you two get divorced?”

New Orleans Pelicans player Bryce Dejean Jones has died at age 23, reportedly from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Lucille “Lou” Richards has stopped short.
For a minute I thought there were some points coming, but it’s a different Lou Richards.
