Apologies if it’s been posted, as I didn’t see it, but Clifton James, who played Sheriff J. W. Pepper in Live and Let Die and The Man With the Golden Gun, has died at 96.
Secret agent? On whose side?
James was a fine character actor, and very memorable in those two small roles in the Bond films.

Former New England Patriot and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez, 27, has committed suicide in prison.
in hindsight, he should have been a consensus pick
Or, as those of us who picked Jerry Sandusky see it, the wrong football guy committed suicide in prison.
I’m guessing his life was clouded by steroids. Anyone?
My theory: he was actually guilty of the two killings for which he’d just been acquitted and the cumulative guilt of everything weighing on him led him to cash in his chips.
And good riddance to him.
Our theory at the gym this morning was that he was able to avoid the idea of spending the rest of his life in prison on the first charge by the distraction of the second trial, but when it was over, he realized that instead of running off to court and having visitors and so forth, he’d be sitting in a cell for the rest of his life. When that realization sunk in, he decided to end it.
The theory is, at least among some sports reporters, is that he was devastated by the death of his father when Hernandez was 16. How that equates to murder, I don’t know.
