Jalal Talabani, who founded the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and later served as President of Iraq, has died at the age of 83. His health problems had inspired me to include him in earlier Death Pool competitions, but he didn’t fit my theme this year.

Joe Tiller, who won more games as Purdue’s head football coach than anyone else, passed away at 74. Tiller headed the Wyoming program before taking over at the helm for the Boilermakers.

Sad, but not surprising. His weight problems would have taken a heavy toll (no pun intended) on his heart.
