Celebrity Life Pool - willing to host if there is interest and help

Me either, when it was my silly idea when I suggested it last year, esp. given how active the original Death Pool yearly threads have seemed to be. Selection bias at work I guess, since they can specifically choose celebs in poor health, while we can avoid such. But we have a firm age limit, while they can put in anybody of any age I believe.

Oh, I see. You mean because they have to be 80 or higher. Yeah, but there is no upper limit. I just saw that Song Ping is 107…I mean…maybe I’ll pick him for next year.

See? My curse holds true. The people I pick steadfastly refuse to die.

Haven’t checked all my picks but I’ve lost Bob Newhart and the great Dame Maggie Smith :cry:

Just checked and updated the spreadsheet and I see that Gena Rowlands also died.

No one has a perfect list at this point. We’ve all had at least one death.

I hope everyone is interested in playing again for 2025. I could use help again making the spreadsheet. It’s been great to have.

Robert Coover (my list), died at 92.

I still don’t comprehend how points are awarded but I should have more because John Amos died and he’s on my list. See post #35 for proof.

I’m confused because Donald Sutherland, 88, got me 52 points but it looks like Amos will only get me 5. Why? I don’t know. He’s on third and I don’t give a darn!

I had missed updating John Amos, but have now.

Sutherland did not get you 52 points. You had 52 points remaining after his death and now with Amos also dead, you have 47 points remaining.

Thank you for re-mentioning Amos. I flipped him to dead.

Aah, subtraction! Now I get it. Thanks!

Yep and feel free to peruse the list to check your people. I believe you can even flip the “live” to “dead” button yourself. I made it editable.

María Teresa Sese has been on the list all year, but I see she died in 2019????

@Happy_Lendervedder is this true?

Hmm, apparently so. I’m pretty sure she wasn’t listed as dead when I made the list, but who knows?

Yeah, I was just running through all the 100+ people to see if anyone had died. She came up as dead for 5 years. Let me know if you have proof she is alive.

I just checked again, I am truly astonished that so far only Ruth Westheimer has died from my team. If they keep it up I will repeat the list next year!

British actress June Spencer died yesterday at the age of 105.

She was on two entries here:
@Happy_Lendervedder
@Pardel-Lux

BBC obit:
The Archers radio star June Spencer dies aged 105

Yep, marked it. Thanks.

As we end the year, now would be a great time to review any and all names to see if someone had died.

Note: Please feel free to review and make sure the spreadsheet is accurate. I have a backup of it, but be careful! Has anyone died that is not marked as such?

Thank you all for our first Life Pool! Our very first winner is:

@Happy_Lendervedder

Happy actually had the most deaths, must have been using the “put the oldest people findable” strategy. :slight_smile:

None of us came out with zero deaths, however, so we all obviously were shooting as old as we felt we could.

Here is the table of final results:

Player Points Deaths
Baker 57 3
blue67ccm 152 1
commasense 207 1
Happy_Lendervedder 215 5
Hatchie 94 2
John_DiFool 104 3
Kitten_Mitten 136 4
Little_Nemo 185 2
Mahaloth 132 1
NotherYinzer 47 2
Pardel-Lux 198 2

Some old people don’t know how to stay alive like they used to, so sad! May that be a lesson for the remaining ones, who have been put on my team again. Good work, Mahaloth!
I believe I can do better, will prepare better next year (2026), if I don’t forget again. The lesson I take away: even very old people die less than you think. I hope that on average this is a good thing, though I am not sure.
