Another piece of Presidential trivia.
Here’s the famous painting “Washington Crossing the Delaware” by Emanuel Leutze. How many Presidents do you see in this picture?
There are two. Washington of course. And the man standing behind him holding the flag is Lt James Monroe, who was one of Washington’s staff officers during the war.
When my childhood neighbors were doing some home renovations, they found an old beat up suitcase in the attic. It was locked, but out of curiousity they picked the lock as they could tell there was something inside it. The suitcase was filled with miscellaneous personal grooming items and a number of hand drawings of architechtural specs. Also in the suitcase was a small black notebook with the name “F. Wright” written inside the cover. Naaah, it couldn’t be, they thought, but they took it to the architecture school at a local university. When compared to Wright’s known signature, it was found to be authentic, as were the drawings. After a little research was done, it was determined that Wright had lived briefly as a guest in their house while he was designing several buildings in the area. What they found in their attic must have been some items he left behind when he stayed there.
