Nathan Lane. I remember an episode of Frasier where he plays a guy who’s stolen Frasier’s wallet (and later scams him out of his car), we hear him on the phone first, and I remember knowing it would be him. I don’t think he was super famous back when the ep first aired, though…(I saw the episode well after it first aired).
Jeff Bridges.
He almost certainly could, since that’s not his natural speaking voice. He uses an assumed voice to beat a stutter. And of course, he’s used it so long now, and he’s so good at it, that nobody would want him to speak any other way.
Based on recent Simpson’s episodes with celebrity guests: Werner Herzog and Lisa Kudrow** (she was in an old syndicated ep). I don’t know how unique Herzog’s voice is to native German speakers, but to me it’s instantly recognizable.
Just last night, supervenusfreak played a video and told me to guess who the singer was (I couldn’t see it from where I was sitting). I listened for about 20 seconds and said “Sophie Ellis-Bextor”. And I was right!
Oh, and Jon Cryer does radio ads for Wachovia Bank (now Wells-Fargo), and I recognized his voice the first time I heard one.
Kelsey Grammer and John Ratzenberger
Peter Coyote
Frank Nelson
Kathleen Turner
Alan Alda. His voice is instantly recognizable to me, though I’m not sure if that’s the case for others.
She was overenunciating, more like someone who had gone to a speech coach, or at least was code switching. I suspect that her whiny voice is her normal voice. It’s not like Gottfried who sounded perfectly natural.
Katey Sagal
Shatner
Phillip Baker Hall
I’d add David Attenborough, who is the voice of wildlife documentaries for me.
Garrison Keillor
Sean Bean
Brian Cox (the actor, not the physicist. Although, now I think of it…)
Brian Cox (the physicist)
Brian Blessed
Joe Pasquale
Oh! Added extra-value instantly-recognisable celebrity voice:
Jon Culshaw
The movie Kiss the Girls was spoiled from the start because there’s a voiceover by the killer, and I immediately recognized his voice.
[del]Un[/del]like some Robin Hoods, he can’t disguise his accent.
Ray Romano and H Jon Benjamin.
Alec Baldwin
Tracy Morgan
Michael C Hall
Kiefer Sutherland
H Jon Benjamin
David Attenborough
Morgan Freeman
To name a few.
Sean Connery - even when he’s playing an American citizen (The Presidio) he’s presumably naturalized, since that wonderful brogue is always there (although I guess he can do posh English also, from his 007 days).
No, he’s Scottish in those too. Ian Fleming even wrote in a Scottish background for Bond in the later books to account for it.
