I have ATT. Let’s try our best to keep this fact based only…I know we’ve all got our own favorite providers and horror stories. Anyway I’m in a contract. I want to know -
Why does my data connection drop out from time to time?
It happens all the time…intermittently. Usually I still have perfect voice reception, and can send/receive text messages. Not multimedia, just text. Internet browsing stops working. This is an issue because I frequently use my phone for navigation - google maps mobile is the bomb! But it loads the maps depending on your location…which requires a data connection.
It happens regardless of my physical location, wether I am moving or not, inside or outside, upside down or not, on a boat, on a train, in a car, on the wing of a plane…well maybe not that one. Right after rebooting the phone, or if it’s been on all day. Sometimes it’ll go out while I’m driving…so I think maybe it’s a dead zone…but then I drive through that area later…and it’s fine again!
Is it a floating dead zone caused by solar wind? Rogue microwaves? Aliens?
I would call ATT to ask them but we all know how that conversation would go :smack:
Me: So why does my data connection drop out from time to time?
Them: What device do you have?
Me: (no particular response matters here) Blackberry Bold. Happened on my Motorola Backflip too. And on the Blackberry before that. But never to my wife. Same plan. For the last three years!
Them: Are you in a coverage area?
Me: Of course…otherwise I would not be wondering why my data drops out…
Them: It must be that you are in a non- covered area.
Me: Well it goes in and out while I am standing in one single location. There! It just went out now…wait it’s back.
Them: Do you have reception or are you inside?
Me: Any more useless questions? I am talking to you! I clearly have reception.
I’d rather not bother the underpaid customer service technician…they never know anything technical. And if it’s a network issue they can’t help anyway.
So anyway…anyone else have this problem? I like being able to read the Dope on the go. I like being able to check the weather when and where I want. I like being able to use google maps for navigation instead of relying on a turn by turn telling me what to do…
I just want to know if there’s anything I can even do about it…or if it’s just me, or if it’s just the network.
Or if I can whine enough and get them maybe to credit my bill…since they aren’t holding up their end of the contract by providing the service I am paying for.
