I am a high school graduate.
I have worked continually in the corporate world in some capacity for almost 15 years.
I was a Certified Nurses Aide for a year, with the associated classes.
I have attended several Community College Courses over the last few years, as I slowly work my way towards a degree in History.
I read. I read a lot, and have excellent comprehension of what I read. My last IQ (as if it mattered) was taken in high school, and was in the mid 130’s.
None of this, of course, matters. And I could be lying about any of it.
What counts on the internet (and this board in particular) is not degrees or titles, but ability to construct a coherent thought, and relate it in this particular medium.
Oddly enough, some of us uneducated types actually use debate to allow thesis and antithesis meet and develop into a stronger synthesis. In which situation, a debate is precisely about exchanging ideas, and educating the opposing sides. Now, in forensics the whole purpose is to defeat and undermine one’s opponent’s arguments. I will contend that forensics has as much to do with debate within the real world, or even academia, as bananas have to do with the geographical distribution of pachyderms.
Gosh, this thread is the mostest fun ever, and takes my mind off the current hamster troubles wonderfully, doncha know.
BTW, I won a Nobel prize for chemistry, my GPA at Harvard was a perfect 6.00, and my IQ is in the low 500s. Not to mention the fact that I built the Mt. Wilson observatory all by myself using nothing but popsicle sticks. Hah!

Sociological constructs are what the social group state them to be. If the majority of a social group believe and state that usage of the word “nigger” equates to racism, then it is. At least within that group.
Attempting to force your own sociological perspective on them is one of the greatest mistakes a sociologist can make!

Can you share your figures? And how are you addressing selection bias? I would assume the majority of respondents are taking the opportunity to engage in competitive ridicule (i.e. competing with each other in displays of aggression) while a much larger segment of this board’s membership has expressed no opinion at all.
At best, I guess, you could offer some theories about the particular respondents, perhaps extrapolating to the membership that primarily populates Great Debates on a Thursday/Friday, allowing for international time zones.
