Ceramic tile problems

We have a very large area tiled in 8 inch tiles. These are 10 years old and there are probably a dozen that have cracks in them. A search of the house turned up two intact extra tiles. A trip to the store where they were ordered from turned up a change of ownership and no additional tiles to be purchased. Is there any trick or method of either repairing rather than replacing cracked tiles, or a method to either obtain or fabricate matching tiles?

An experienced ‘old school’ tile setter should be able to look at the back of the tile and determine a lot about where it came from. You need a guy that has been around…well seasoned…and he will have the best shot of figuring it out. If he finds the tile, he won’t tell you the details.

Get a decent tile in the hands of a well-respected, seasoned tile guy.

My first thought was that if there are so many broken tiles in the first place then there is probably something fundamentally wrong with the foundation on which they are laid. How thick is the sub-floor and is it properly secured to the joists?

If you try replacing the existing tiles, what will prevent them from breaking again?
