CGA D&D-ish game of the 80s?

Presumably the 80s, at least; I know that’s when I played it.

I’m trying to figure out the name of this old thing, and since I don’t have a 5 1/4" drive in my computer anymore I can’t go back to my old store of disks (which we still have, for some reasons) to check.

I remember that there was a decently-sized city you could head through, and I vaguely remember it having a faintly Arabian feel (though I could be hallucinating that). There was also at least one dungeon with several levels, possibly with several entrances inside. I remember clearly that there were stirges, which were phenomenally irritating but also unusual in D&D-style computer games of the 80s.

I know that the graphics were the bright sickly yellow of CGA. I think it had a similar UI structure to Bard’s Tale, but I believe you did not have a party – it was just you against the dungeon.

Does this sound familiar to anyone at all?

The Alternate Reality Series??

Did you have to solve word puzzles to open treasure chests?

I agree, it sounds like Alternate Reality. More detailed link.

I remember seeing some years ago where some independent group was working on remaking the series for modern machines. I wonder whatever became of it?

Okay, that one I remember. I was addicted to my brother’s copy of it but screwed myself when I accidentally saved with no weapons or armor and never finished. What was that one?

That one’s Betrayal at Krondor. Definitely not CGA.

Nah… I don’t think that’s the one. This was definitely more vanilla D&D. City above. Dungeons below. Evil wizard too, I think.

Here are examples of CGA graphics –

Four colors. Cyan, magenta, yellow, something else.

I… think I’ve found it, actually.

Moraff’s Revenge

  1. Cruel, 4 color graphics. Apparently I was totally wrong about looking something like Bard’s Tale.

No kidding. That’s about 1 step above Moria, graphics-wise.
