Old-school gaming, but neice wants to play it. Anyone know where I can download a free- share-ware version of it?
I haven’t check it for this particular game but http://www.virtualapple.com/ seems a likely starting place.
Are these , thw games you’re looking for?
I think those are later versions of it. You want the old-skool “You have shot five million pounds of the fastest buffalo in the West. However, you can only carry 100 pounds back.” And “Lost: 200 pounds of food, 10 boxes of ammo, You (Drowned).”
If you find it, please post where - sweet nostalgia! I used to play with my dad, and we’d take it very personally. Plus, I learned what “dysentery” meant.
AndrewT, that’s the one I was looking for. Thanks!
Totally awesome Web site. Thanks!
Another good site for old games is The Underdogs
Neither that one nor the one at the Underdogs seems to be the one I grew up with, though (which according to the Underdogs came out in 1988.) Far, far too many colors - I want my rivers blue and my wagon white and maybe a little cyan when you get to them Western forts. Is there really no source for the original VGA (I think) game?
No, wait, it wouldn’t have even been VGA. What did you call “graphics” before that? I forget. Anyway, I used to play it on an Apple IIGS, if that says anything.
There was EGA–16 colors–and CGA–4 colors. Problem is, I can’t remember if CGA is what he’s talking about or if it is that combination of red, yellow, black, and green.
