I finally have a use for the personal web space that comes from my ISP (Verizon FioS), so I build a page that has a form and I call the cgi “MailTo” script per the documentation on the “My Web Space” documentation page, setting up the mail to come from a sub-account address and sending to a subaccount. Everything is within the Verizon domain.
At first I think my coding of the HTML was wrong, no messages are forthcoming, although I see the confirm page and no complaints about an error.
Then I see that at 3:00 am that night, my messages get sent. Test again, next night at 3:00am, same thing. So some scheduled job runs at 3am to send the daily cgi mail (!).
Is this typical for free web space on an ISP like Comcast, Verizon, etc? Seems very very poor. I was expecting the mail would be sent within a few seconds to minutes by some background process on the web server, not sent 1x per day.
