Why do students keep saying that? I’m talking about the “comfortable” part. Of course they should feel safe, but if you don’t sometimes feel uncomfortable, then you’re not doing things right.
says a lot about the way they were raised. parents raising them to believe they’re the center of the universe, always shielding or rescuing them from anything even mildly unpleasant, and teaching them to believe their opinions are facts.
[Mundane, pointless] I keep wanting to sing the title of this thread, to the tune of “Up On the House Top.”
Chalk on the sidewalk, Boo hoo hoo,
Students are nitwits at Emory U.
By “Trump 2016” graffiti? Seriously? Anybody who feels challenged by that has a heap of growin’ and maturin’ to do.
You do realize thats precisely the topic of this thread? As incredible as it may be; these students not only complained once. They held a rally.
It boggles the mind how these snowflakes will cope in the adult world.
Helicopter parenting is surely part of it, but Filter bubbles probably haven’t helped these kids, either. They spend half their lives on the internet, where search engines and social media filter out the nasty bits (including disagreeable political content) and only deliver the content they want to see (including agreeable political content). Now they’re suddenly faced with differing opinions that they can’t get away from (e.g. chalk signs they have to walk by), and they’re freaked out.
At first glance the guy in the photo looks like Fred Armissen, which makes this seem even more like a bit on Portlandia.
I can’t wait until these kids graduate and start looking for jobs.
“But I don’t feel comfortable not making $100,000 a year.”
OK, firstly, what is an “antiphonal” chant?
Secondly, “we are in pain”???
Somebody should start a website which keeps a list of all the ridiculous cry-baby snowflake protests on campuses. The site should be embedded in all the job-hunting sites, (like monster dot com, etc), so that they scan the list along with all the resumes .
And then employers should state that if your resume includes a degree from any of the listed cry-baby campuses, they will NOT read it.
Like those policy notices “We test for drugs”.
But this one would say “We test for stupid snowflakes”.
One day when God was walking around heaven to medidate,
Who should he see but Harry chalkin’ slogans on the gate?
Chalkin’ slogans on the gate, slogans on the gate
Who should he see but Harry chalkin’ slogans on the gate?
I keep thinking what a massive bunch of whiners they are. I mean, it’s not like someone chalked something actually offensive on the pavement, but instead mere support statements for a political candidate.
And really, aren’t universities supposed to be bastions of free speech, not where whiners try and censor political statements that they merely don’t like? That seems like 180 degrees off from what I thought part of the point of free thought and speech in universities is supposed to be about?
Beyond that, had some group reacted with as much whiny butt-pain as this, my friends and I would probably have gone out of our way to blanket the campus in Trump stuff in a sort of chain-yanking response. I’m honestly surprised nobody did that in this case.
It’s possible it was chain-yanking in the first place.
Call and response:
What do we want?
TO BE COMFORTABLE!
When do we want it?
SOMETIME IN THE NEAR FUTURE!
Kids these days. Back in my day, they used to tear-gas us. And we liked it!
Got it. I don’t have any kids, myself, but I don’t know any kids that act like this. It must be some small minority, no?
I’m all for social justice but fucking get over yourself students, some asshats trolled you. This doesn’t require a university response
Sometimes they shot us at Kent State.
Son House did a jazz call and response, although he does both, John the Revelator.
The worst part is that the university president has declared that they are going to go through camera footage and take disciplinary action against the students who did the chalking.
Actually it might be a good idea to have someone from Kent State who was there when the shootings happened come to the school for a discussion. Then perhaps these kids will learn what it’s REALLY like to be frightened on campus.
Seriously? You’re equating supporting an actual political candidate, asshole that he may be, to saying “No Muslims”? :dubious:
Christ, what do these kids do when they see a Trump bumpersticker, or turn on the TV, wet themselves? :smack:
(Please, I don’t want to be on this planet anymore.)
