Reminds me of the first time I saw Blazing Saddles back in 1973 or '74, and I was the only one in the cinema who laughed at the line “Badges? We ain’t got no badges. We don’t need no steenkin’ badges!” Nobody else got the joke.

A drama. It’s a complete non-sequitur to the rest of the film.
In fact, I don’t think anyone is ever going to get it; I plucked it from obscurity. I love the film, but full disclosure … I can’t describe the scene the line comes from. Blurred in case anyone still wants to guess but it was Awakenings

I’ll bet the people who get the joke in that clip know it only from Blazing Saddles, rather than the original source.

Possibly, but the way the quote is used in Blazing Saddles certainly feels like it’s a reference to something earlier.
Your story reminded me of one from my mother. She went to see Young Frankenstein with a friend. At the line “pardon me boy, is this the Transylvania station?” they were the only two who laughed.
Mel Brooks has a gift for that, I guess.

Yes! I love that movie. It’s actually a good film, relying more on suspense than graphic effects.
