Stripes?
A: Can’t you even look like a human being?
B: I don’t know, sir, I’ve never tried.
Since no one guessed my non famous line I’ll just give it a final update.
“That boy can sing.”
It is from the scene between General Longstreet and General Lewis Armistead in the movie Gettysburg (1993).
In the background a soldier is singing Kathleen Mavourneen and Longstreet comments on how well the young man can sing.
It’s a pivotal scene in the movie and the actor who plays Armistead (Richard Jordan) portrays his character with such convincing emotion.
It’s one of my all time favorite scenes.
“You trouble me like women.”
Anthony Quinn in Lawrence of Arabia
That’s it! Did a re-watch last night. Such a fantastic script - hard to chose just one line.
–sung badly–
'Lawrence, Lawrence of Arabia, he’s an English guy, came to fight the Turkish. ’
Officer Clark from The Hollywood Knights.
AND an unknown voice off in the distance.
Yes, indeed.
I use this line in life.
Perfect. Like a perfect horse’s ass.
Okay, how about:
“Woman, you trouble me.”
“Heaven knows, Mr. Allison.”
This one’s tough, but I just have a feeling someone here will figure it out.
Uhhh … Deborah Kerr to Robert Mitchum in Heaven Knows, Mr Allison?
Yes! This place never lets me down.
A: I’ve heard a lot about you.
B: Really? I haven’t heard anything about you.
Richard Rich and Will Roper in A Man for All Seasons.
Really? I love that movie, but I don’t recall those lines being in it.
The movie I’m thinking of was on TV just this afternoon, and it’s about as far from A Man for All Seasons as you can get.
I’ll give you a clue: It was a big hit in 1946.
Another clue: The exchange is between a woman and a man.
Sadly, I watched this movie last night for the first time in a looong time, and there’s almost nothing in it that’s both funny and not wildly inappropriate. Not that it was ever considered a masterpiece, but it’s aged badly.
I should have used a question mark. There’s an exchange along those lines, but maybe that’s not it verbatim. I’ll see if I can find a clip.
