Challenge! Who is the man sitting with all the stars on Johnny Carson?

I’m starting to think we should all start emailing/Twittering/Facebooking every celebrity we can think of and find from that era to see if any of them recognize him (half-joking smilie!).

Sure I’d like to be the one who figures it out.
At this point I just want someone to do it and free me from the curse of the mystery man.

The guy in the photo is too good looking to be Conried. I really think it is Tige Andrews.

Tige Andrews was nominated for an Emmy in the year that those other won, but he didn’t win. So it’s unlikely that he’d be there with the winners.

Clearly it’s time to pool our money together to hire a PI.

Thank you!

I know that I know this guy!!! It’s so frickin’ frustrating and I just want my Dopers to come through!

I searched ‘Lloyd Heinreid’ thinking that his name was something like that. (Um, no, that would be a character from Mr. King’s ‘The Stand’!) But I obviously had Mr. Conreid in mind, but it’s just not him.

I’m absolutely CERTAIN that as soon as someone gets it, I’ll be all, oh, yeah, shit it’s HIM. I guarantee he is British. Suave, intellectual, thin, smoker, smooth. Definitely blonde-to-gray, actor, not that well known but definitely one of those ‘hey, its that guy’ guys.

CRAP. This is occupying way too much of my fragile brain!

Yes. Your effort here is more likely to bear fruit than will any of our guessing games, no doubt.

Even if the photo has been assembled (i.e. is a hoax), that man is…someone.

…Unless…unless…unless his image has been assembled, too. …Cliff Robertson’s* mouth plus Dan Rowan’s** eyes plus Michael Caine’s hair…

At one point I considered going through the entire cast lists of the seven James Bond movies made up to 1971, on the theory that Mystery Man “looks like” the type of guy who’d be cast in a Bond picture. (I did spend a lot of time looking at George Lazenby himself, but none of the shots I found seemed to be promising.)

**Mr. Rowan, in one of his no-mustache periods: http://www.latimes.com/includes/projects/hollywood/portraits/dan_rowan_dick_martin.jpg

So funny!

I did a Google search for ‘british male actors blonde hair johnny carson’.

Third thread down…this one! Thanks for the help!!!

What am I, chopped liver?

Colour corrected.

I don’t think it can be Hans Conried. All his pictures are from 1950. By 1970 he was way older.

No, but on my monitor the white shirts and tables in yours had a very pink cast.

I white balanced and did some other color balance and saturation changes.

For those of you just joining us on page 8, here’s the guy, in a few different hues.

Willow2us replied and told me he got it ‘from some movie magazine’. Which one he can’t remember. It is definitely not a hoax but as big a mystery is why it does not appear in more places than fanpop, facebook and this thread.

I believe he’s British, based on his demeanor.

Except for the British part and the whole time travel thing, this is who I think it is. Anyone else see a resemblance?

I did a little more research and the only other winning actor I can find from 1970 is Eric Porter for The Forsyte Saga. You can judge if he looks like Mystery Man.

This has been an interesting thread.

I have no idea who he is, but I am sure he is not just about everyone named on page 1. Sid Caesar?

That cracked me up.

But, I am at a loss. And. I got every single one of the others, including Karen Black, and I have no idea where that name was sitting in my memory.

Going with the British angle, he looks more like Patrick Macnee, though the hair’s wrong:

Hell, he looks a little like Ian Fleming, too, except Fleming was dead long before 1970:

How about Ian Richardson? I’m pretty sure it’s not him, but it’s damn close. Can’t link to pic from here but he was the main character in the UK version of ‘House of Cards’.

His IMDB page shows that he was nominated for an Tony and was on ‘The Mike Douglas Show’ in '76…nothing on US TV prior.

Must say I pulled him outta nowhere! Kinda excited actually!!

Karen Valentine. It seems to been sitting in a defective sector.

I’m guessing that this picture was originally found in an old Photoplay magazine. That’s why it’s yellowed. For all we know, the guy in the guest seat might not even have been on the air, but someone who sat down for a magazine photo after the awards. Maybe the publisher of the magazine, or the producer of the awards show, or someone like that.

Except I’m sure I know him… (-:
