Hmm no? the best time would be BETA, you know… what they just had?
They reduced defensive powers and increased the damage of enemy attacks.
At the same time.
Eh, tweaking things doesn’t bother me at all, it’s just a part of the game.
I managed to sell a bunch of gear on the marketplace last night. I have no clue how much things are actually worth, so I put things up for twice the vendor value. That seemed to work.
I’m glad to see they’re redoing how respecs work. That was a major concern of mine.
True enough, but launch day is a horrible day to do it. You’re going into release with a game that you have very little idea of whether or not it’s currently viable. That’s what beta testing is for, so that something doesn’t go live untested. I mean, I’m sure they’ve been doing internal testing, but internal testing isn’t comparable at all to a live server or even the public test server.
Well, they kinda had to do it as soon as they could- preferably before a ton of people got into the game. Otherwise, the first thing that most players would experience would be a massive nerf. Doing it this way, *we *were the ones who experienced it.
I don’t really mind it too much. My wife’s character (Ice/Invulnerability) seems to do more single-point damage and take less damage than my character (Electricity/Force), but it’s not been too bad at all. Last night, at level 17, we fairly easily took out a level 20 master villain. I died once, but I think that was because my Field Surge seems to be broken.
But the question is, why didn’t they do it earlier, when things were still in beta and they could see how it worked before launch? I’ve been hearing about how the defense sets were overpowered since the NDA dropped, they had plenty of time to address it.
Granted, I’m pretty sure I know why: this wasn’t a true beta, it was a marketing ploy to generate hype. The changeover to live was the only time they could reasonably do it. That doesn’t make it a good practice, though.
Well I screwed around with it some. Having fun, but still not quite comfortable with the interface. Made a claw fighter who was a bit boring, then made a sorcery nuker who is a lot more fun. I keep getting slaughtered in PVP cage matches though.
Is there any kind of auction house?
I just realized what “AH” means here. :smack:
Welcome to the world of “pre-made” teams, who have synergistic powers, and coordinate attacks and support via voicechat. I got so fed up with losing 0-15, I started just sitting in the locker room. I still get mission credit.
It’s in Millennium City, in the one of the buildings in the main plaza. There’s no map icon, so you have to search around for it.
Cool, thanks.
So, one more question. What is the best way to make money. I did some experimental things which didn’t work out, and now I would like to retcon way back near the beginning but I can find money?
I don’t know any way to make decent money. I’ve been selling gear that I can’t experiment on, but the cost of learning new crafting is eating up all my cash.
The retcon system is still undergoing massive changes. They supposedly reduced the prices already and will probably do it again. I’d suggest patience or rolling an alt.
My main is “Meteor Girl”, a Might/Fire scrapper-type. But I think I’m going to roll a simple one-framework alt that won’t require careful planning until things are more stable.
I haven’t had any problem with money at all but then I haven’t had anything to spend it on other than crafting formulas and for the most part that seems to be a waste (the exceptions being costume parts for people who want them and consumables).
I’ve had only a little time to play, so I’m still trying to suss out exactly how some things work. I got my head handed to me by those snow wolf guys while trying to rescue the crash survivors in Canada.
I’d like to play around with the builds a bit too. But I’ll hold off. I like “Meteor Girl”. In high school I made up a supoer heroinne called “Meteor Maid”.
Finally managed to get the game up and running after some horrifying lag yesterday. In at @shadeedge.
I used my free retcon and my character is playing well. Look! I can link to my character. (I think that’s publicly accessible.) There’s still a problem with the cape costume–you can’t make the inside color of the cape different than the outside.
I managed to solo a two-player instance, although the end boss killed me three times before I finally took him down.
Here’s my current Legion-inspired, recreated from City of Heroes, main: http://www.champions-online.com/character_profiles/40317 .
Hmmm…lemme try. This is my main.
My teleporting superhero guerilla fighter. I chose her powers according to what I thought sounded badass – turns out I picked nearly every overpowered fotm skill imaginable without even realizing it!
Oh, and the game is really annoying at level 30-33. Content gaps to 32, and then Lemuria is a horribly laggy and buggy zone. I’ve put it down for the time being and am catching up on reading.
My alt is a blaxploitation martial artist, but he’s sitting at level 1 until they un-gimp the martial arts framework ![]()
My main is up to level 18. I level slowly.
I hope the content gaps are filled by the time I get to them.
With Invulnerability at Rank 3, I’m not having trouble with any missions. Henchmen have to have large to be any danger to me, although sometimes they seem smart enough to spread out so I can’t block or hit more than a few at once. Villains and higher can be tricky depending on their shtick attacks and how vulnerable they are to knockback.
I crossed to 37 last night with my main.
The thing is that so far there has been one content gap (roughly around 30-31 depending on your play style) and a whole lot of people whining about gaps that don’t exist. Usually it’s people who haven’t been exploring the game and finding the missions that are off the radar or people who have an obsession with only running missions marked at their level (what those people will do with their level 41 missions I don’t know). Remember to blow up anything that looks odd because you might get a mission for it and that there’s a reason that enemies at your level con as weaker than you.
