They’re giving out another free retcon tomorrow. There’s definitely some tweaks I want to make with my build.
My latest annoyance is the level limitation on the crafting skill. I’ve maxed out my skill and can’t raise it until I get to level 21. This is a side effect of crafting being fairly easy. I’ve been deconstructing all the quest rewards I get. It’s an easy way to get skill points and materials.
I’ve been making steady sales at the marketplace. I put up all the loot I can’t use for about twice the vendor price. It seems to sell well.
CO seems to have a lot of server outages. It is kind of expected since its only reaching its first month from going live, but its a bit annoying.
I’ll admit it makes it hard to go back to CoX. CO is the new shiny, and I’ll admit that makes me more interested in it than CoX. But while CoX is fine CO is a bit more challenging to me and I like that part. I think there is enough room for both games in the genre, but I hope CO gets their balance/server/nerf issues together soon. (nerfs are always going to happen in an MMO, but they need to get things on an even keel to keep the nerfs from being too frustrating to players.)
I also hope they add more zones, content and yeah, character slots. One problem I had with CoX is that when I made a new toon I had to go throught the same old missions at the start over and over and over. They kind of fixed some of that, but with the CO mechanics and wealth of material in the hero games pnp books, they have leeway to make more options other than “Canada” and “The Southwest Desert”. We’ll see, I guess.
They’ve been putting out updates every night. And they do hotfixes and shutdowns when something gets seriously broken. I think yesterday some characters and supergroups went missing. It definitely feels like beta still. But the basics are working well (or least my character is) and the game is fun.
Assuming they’re solvent the first quarter, I think the game will do well long term.
Occasionally when you’ve made a Nemesis an ambush of their minions would spawn which was annoying but their minions have been weakened and it’s more manageable. The actual missions involving the Nemesis are the best designed in the game. Not only are you putting your hero against a villain that you designed but the missions are packed solid with cool stuff; there was one where I there were roughly a dozen NPC supervillains and superheroes who would join in the fight.
Don’t feel too bad. I created a nemesis for my power armor hero without putting a lot of thought into it…I got*** ninja-pirates***. The funny thing is, they’re pretty tough foes.
The stupid beastmen are a pain too, as a melee base they all have roots. My toon is a nuke-and dodge type. Several times already I have been doing a different quest, carefully studying my attack angle, and unleashing the hurt. Then all the sudden I find my self rooted, having been snuck up from behind on by the damn zoo.
No, the Rat beastmen are a pain. They can somehow multiply so if you see a Bear (villain) a Bird henchie and a rat henchie you have to take out the rat or the bird first. If you go for the rat you have to take him out really fast before the bird uses his sonic howl to push you away. The rat will them do his Jamie Madrox impersonation and swamp you with numbers.
I suppose it’s different with different builds though. Since my main is all might he has to melee. My secondary character is all PA, but he has an easier time with mobs so far since he can attack from range and use laser sword up close when enemies close the distance.
I read on one website where someone made their nemesis just like them, using one of the sorcery types . Unfortunately that gave him the sorcery Form to become immune to that type of damage. So you should probably be careful of that if you focused on one damage type.
Diversifying your damage types is important irregardless of your Nemesis. My first 40 has the option of force, particle, or magic depending on the situation. The character I’m working on now has fire and slashing damage as options.
Okay, Nemesis tips:
First, you can’t change them and once you create them you are stuck with them for a long time. You will eventually get a second Nemesis but I was level 39 when that happened. My point here is take your time, get the costume right, and don’t make something that will grate on you after you see them a couple of times.
In terms of minions the aliens have their perk bugged so they take a lot more kills to earn than other minion types. In the long run this probably won’t be a big deal but if you care about those things you might want to consider a different minion type. Otherwise there’s no difference between the different model sets.
Dark and Power Armor are the toughest minion damage sets. Fortunately they’ve been toned way down since launch and I doubt that picking them will be a real handicap. Just be aware that dark has some rough damage types and healing while power armor has plenty of knock back.
For your Nemesis’s powers just go for theme. You can’t mix and match sets so you may want to keep that in mind as you’re coming up with your concept.
Once you’re dealing with the ambushes remember to pick up the clues they drop because those lead to the special missions.
I hope they add more content soon, though. Its frustrating to get missions that are several levels higher than I am all of the time. The death penalty is laughable, but it ain’t fun to know I’m going to faceplant several times just to complete the mission.
Yeah, but at least they now allow you to use mission rewards as soon as you get them, instead of giving them level restrictions. Well, most of them, anyway- power replacers are still level-locked. No big loss- they’re all pretty much useless anyway, except as costume pieces.
I noticed that Cryptic added a lot of stuff to the C Store today. The robotic beast costume pieces are very tempting, and I’ve already got more than enough to buy them…
Halloween content went up today. I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet.
I made my first Nemesis–Comet Gal, with Ice powers and Ninjas. I must be overpowered, because the missions were not too challenging. I do like being ambushed by the minions at various times. If I’m pushing my limits on other things, a sudden rush of Ninjas really adds to the excitement.
I’ve taken numerous characters throught the tutorial, and gotten a small handful as far as level 6/7, but there are several things I still don’t get.
How do you use the block power - the one specific to your power set? That’s usually the first new power I choose upon arriving at the Powerhouse, but it never seems to do what it purports to do. I’ve tried dragging the power to the “Block” slot in the tray - still nothing.
What do you do with items you obtain that are not directly related to a mission, such as the key to the city?
What are Perks and Resources, and what do you do with them?
You should be able to drag the power to your block slot. That’s the one that says “Sh” (for shift). If you hover the cursor over that slot, what power does it say? I haven’t had any problems with dragging powers around. Are you sure it’s catching?
I think the key to the city is simply a souvenir. I put mine in the bank along with a few others. For other things, it depends. Devices I put in the device tray and eventually use. Gear that’s an upgrade, I equip. If it’s not, then I either deconstruct it if it’s in my craft, put in the marketplace it if it’s green or higher, or vendor it if it’s white or yellow.
Resources are simply money. Perks are a record of something you’ve accomplished. Perk points can be used to buy special things. I’ve never done it, so I don’t know what’s available.
