Change in ATMB/ Pit forum descriptions (discussion)

How is my end of the conversation inappropriate?

I thought he meant DSYoungEsq’s contribution, are you sure he meant you?

“This is the place for suggestions, complaints, and other discussions regarding rules, administration, and moderator decisions.”

Are you guys doing any of those? No. Criticism of other posters doesn’t fall into those categories. I’m not warning either of you, but if you want to keep at it, do it where you’re supposed to.

But I wasn’t criticizing anyone. DSYoung basically called me a liar and you decided to comment on the conversation rather than his “Riiiiiight ” post. In case you are wondering: I’m currently questioning your mod decision.

This thread is about a change in the forum descriptions–not about any moderating decisions that might have been made. You are free to start a thread about that in the appropriate forum if you wish. Please stay on topic in this thread. If you continue to argue this point here, I will issue you a formal warning.

Don’t make me turn this car around now.

And CarnalK, stop touching your brother.

The danger is that a thread will start off fine but someone will post something a little bit vituperative or rambunctious and you’ll end up either moving lots of stuff to the Pit; having parallel ATMB and Pit threads; or excluding some people from the discussion based on difficult - and difficult and time-consuming to defend - judgments about how civilised they’ve been.

My take on this is that ideally we would keep all discussions on board policy and moderating decisions here. Heated discussions are fine, provided people don’t start slinging personal insults around. So “I think Giraffe’s decision to close that Pit thread was stupid” would be OK, while “Giraffe is a stupid asshole” would not be. (Because I’m not a stupid asshole, OK? Jerk.)

I think the idea is to allow for all GD-style discussion and debate of board policies in ATMB, and only have straight-up flaming or ranting in the Pit.
