change in search default

From what I have seen, the search function under each post which according to the parallel function on the “profile” screen should provide a “Search: All posts by this registered user”, is now by default only providing the posts of that user for the last 30 days.

I don’t object to the change per se, but the wording on the profile page should be updated, and I would guess that the people on the board should be informed if they haven’t already.

We’ve made quite a few changes to the search engine the past few weeks and I thought all were public by now; that little announcement may have gotten past me in all the uproar of late.

If so, I apologize.

Search is the most resource-intensive thing on the system and we’re always looking for a balance between giving users the access needed to find information and tying up the system to give it to them. When there’s a conflict we will nearly always come down on the side of keeping the pipe open for more users as opposed to putting more resources to the individual users.

It’s another of those Star-Trekkian “needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few . . . or the one” kind of choices.

Yes, but in Star Trek III, they saved Spock because, as Kirk put it, “the needs of the one outweighed the needs of the many.”

Yeah, but here on this board I happen to be the One . . . and I prefer as many people as possible be able to sign on, read the board, make posts, etc.

(Good thing everyone above me agrees with me on this.)

And many of us below you, too, TubaDiva.
