I’m guessing this is to speed up the board in general, so I applaud the change.
I’d guess most people are trying to locate things they’d seen recently, so asking for more is a waste of resources.
Just want to make sure people aren’t unduly confused by it and start reporting “search errors”.
The option of “Any Date” is still there, if you are trying for something more inclusinve.
The search function is very resource intensive and sometimes the call that it makes on the system is enough to generate one of those periods where the server thrashes around and people get those “timed out” messages.
As demand on the board grows (900,00 page views last month and probably more this month), the server is strained to its very limits.
The techs are trying to keep everything going, which is much like watching one of those old vaudeville guys spin plates while juggling eggs and chainsaws. Fiddling with the search parameters is more of this sort of thing as they try to enable the searches while allowing everybody else to read and post at the same time.
Work on the system, hardware and software, continues. In the meantime, we’re working to get you the best experience that is possible under all these circumstances.

Acutally, I LIKE having the default set lower, it’s rare that I want “any date”, more frequently like “since yesterday”…
