Changing my Screen Name...should I do it?

For some reason I always read your name as Daewoo or however you spell that brand of car.

I really really really really want to change my screen name, too. I just can’t think of anything better to call myself.

I always read it as DaveW-0071, mostly because it was all caps, so i thought it was a name/number hybrid from other boards. You should change your name to 1700WEVAD

“A**clown.”

:::d&r:::

Oh, I can feeeeeel the luuuuuuurve. From god to a**clown in only a year.

No, actually, it was only about a week. I just didn’t start actually calling you an a**clown until recently.

Huh.
I always liked your name becaue it was Dave W Double 0. Double U Double 0. It’s clever!
Of course, if you didn’t do i ton purpose, I guess it’s not very clever…

FWIW, I’ve always just dropped the last part of your name and called you dave w.
This is the sentiment I have whenever I see a name change poll: If you’re even so much as thinking about doing it, you should. I mean, you’re obviously not happy with something, and it’s such an easy thing to fix. [sub]Of course, I’m being a total hypocrite because I’ve been meaning (for about a year now) to drop the “88” from my name. One of these days I’ll get around to it.[/sub]

Another vote for DAVEW-0071

why? did your taste in music change? … just wondering

I don’t think I’m going to change it after all.

A) Too much support for DAVEW0071, especially from Delphica. Her post, more than anything, made me realize that that is truly my identity.

2) As Geobabe noted, people will probably still think of me as “DaveWoo”. And Geo is one of the Dopers who actually knows my full name.

III Hi, Opal!

F Too many DoperWimminz think it sounds like a satisfied woman. Works for me.

Thanks for the responses, folks. And Persephone, I’ll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!

IMHO, we have enough “____-guys” here. It is SO unimaginitive.

And we have several other Daves. If you’re going to make a break, make it a clean one.

Of course, your new name could be “The Member Formerly Known as DAVEW0071”.

I always thought it was to do with some computer language.

I would vote for you changing it - numbers (especially with those zeros) and capitals are a bit offputting. Even Dave_71 would be better IMO.

I took a look at your website - why not “Rave Dave” or “Raving Dave” or something.

I also very much liked “Hired Killer Dave”… though the mods mightn’t

If only I’d known that when I posted! I could have put ‘kill’ and it would have been true, and also would have re-enforced the James Bond connection.

I’m glad you’re keeping it, so I can continue to call your wife “Not Mrs. Dave Woo.”

I was mentally calling you “Dave Whoa 71” - the “whoa” part came from the "double-oh"part of your nick. DaveW-0071 would be my vote, if you were still thinking of changing it.

I changed mine, but I haven’t been around nearly as long, so I’m not as worried about difficulty in people making the adjustment.

Hey … I’M her little dog.

I’ve also called you Davewoo in my head even though I thought the 0071 had something to do with Bond, like you were version 007.1 (less buggy, hah!) or something.

Davewoo is just more fun to say/think. Davewooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Dude!!

That was you?

I always wondered where the mojo went.

Back to the lecture at hand.

I always thought of you as Dave Woo, and probably still will.

But ‘the Dave’ has a certain ring to it.

Well, I thought of you as somehow connected to that professional bass fisherman. If I recall correctly, his name is Woo Daves. He favors working the lake bottom with a Carolina rig or some such. If I remember it right, that is.

You’ve obviously got some brand identity going here. (Female dopers linking your name to sexual satisfaction - real-life marketing mavens kill for that type of brand association!) But I never knew how to pronounce it and find the all-caps off-putting.

So I’d suggest keeping the name, but putting some lower case letters in, but keep the woo - maybe “DaveWoo” or “DaveWoo71.”

Also, speaking from experience, do some bridge work in your sig, to help the Teeming Masses maintain the brand recognition.
