Changing my Screen Name...should I do it?

I’ve been toying recently with the idea of changing my screen name. This is for a couple of reasons.

First, I often refer to myself as The Dave-Guy, and it’s in my sig. I consider that my unofficial nickname, or something, and I thought I might as well make it my official screen name.

Second, it’s come to my attention that many posters seem to think I’m Asian, and that my name is Dave Woo. I’m not and it’s not. Those are zeros, folks, not the letter O. There’s a difference between “DAVEWOO71” and DAVEW0071."

So I’m thinking of making the change. But then, I don’t really mind being called “Dave Woo,” either. And I sometimes think I’ve caused enough confusion as it is.

I dunno.

My first name is Dave. My last name begins with W. The number 0071 is my employee number at work.

And does that employee # exempt you from homicide laws?

I dunno, I think of you as “DaveWoo.” Besides, it’s very hip to have a number in your screen name (ahem). Maybe you could just add a hyphen and become DaveW-0071. That would sow enough confusion, don’t you think?

I have to admit I always read it as Dave Woo 71. I figured you must be a guy named Dave, so much fun people think “woo” when they see you and possibly born in 1971.

I started here as mojo57. I changed it after a month or so cause I was tired of people calling me “dude”.

So go ahead and change your name if you want. All the cool kids are doing it.

Huh. I’ve always pronounced your SN “Dave W 71”. I thought it was some sort of graduation or a random number…

But it always grabs my attention. Dunno if that was on purpose, but it does:)

You could change it to “SuperDave”…then I’d have another opponent in the “Battle of the Usernames”

For some very odd reason known only to my subconscious, I’ve always read your screen name as Davey Wavey.
Change it if you wish-- it would make me happy if Dave is part of it, 'cuz then I’ll remember who you are. It’s hard for us mush-for-brains to keep track.

Agreed: for me, if someone changes a screen name, I almost never make the leap, unless the new name is very similar to the old.

For the record, all this time I’ve been reading your name as “Dave woot!”.

I am SO FOND of your user name as-is. You were one of the very first dopers I met in person (we sat together at dinner at Chumley’s – with Zebra and Sua), and we had a very hilarious conversation about your user name.

It’s your fault - I opened this post and (because of it’s relevance) looked at your name. I saw zeros. Now since you mention it all I can see when I look at your name is “Dave Woo”

And of course now that I keep reading Dave Woo, that’s what I’m going to read it as from now on. Sort of run all together as one word, like Dave-Woo.

I think “The Dave Guy” would be a good name change.
Just my 2¢, of course.
