Just curious if anyone has ever had to change plans and argued their way out of resigning the contract. My contract is up in December, originally it would have been up this August but I changed plan a few months after I got it and they made me resign. Right now I have 300 anytime minutes and unlimited PCS to PCS and seem to be have problems staying under 300 (went over 140 last month = ~$50). Anyway, I really don’t want to have to resign my contract since it’s going to be up this December. I have no problem arguing with the customer service reps because frankly I think this is a stupid policy, especially if i want to just up my plan to the next level (effectively paying them more anyway). Has anyone had any luck doing this? Thanks in advance!
I left Sprint PCS a few years ago because of billing issues… not quite the same as this one, though. I’m with Verizon now and I don’t think I’d have to extend my contract to change plans.
If you don’t get any answers here, try asking on the Usenet group alt.cellular.sprintpcs.
A likely better option:
I happen to be a poster there also.
Can the OP explain the situation a little more clearly? Did you get this contract as part of buying a phone from Sprint at a discount price? If so, usually you can switch between plans, without changing the expiration date of the contract. Almost certainly you should have no problems if what you want to do is up your plan to the next level, and pay more. My best advice:
#1) If possible, try to do the switch at a Sprint corporate store. The sales folks there should be able to handle things without you having to worry about CS runaround.
#2) If you must do this with CS by phone, keep arguing with CS. Often it is as easy as keep hanging up on CS reps until you find one that has a clue and will give you what you want. (My guess is had you done this in the first place your contract would be up in August this year, and not have been extended.)
In August 2003 when I first started service with Sprint I chose a nice plan that allowed me to make calls anywhere in the US that I had a signal. No roaming. Later in December 2003 I decided that wasn’t really worth paying for and downgraded to a $35 plan with 300 minutes and got unlimited PCS to PCS at $5 a month. This required me to re-sign the contract. Since then I have gradually been using more anytime minutes and less PCS to PCS. So the $5 thing really isn’t saving me any money and I’d rather spend that $5 towards the $40 plan that has 500 minutes or even possibly the Fair and Flexible plan that allows you to only pay in $5 increments when you do go over. The problem is that even though I would be paying them the same amount each month, or possibly a bit more if I decided to go with the Fair and Flexible, they want me to re-sign the contract for an extra year from the date I change if I just up my plan or an extra 2 years if I go with the Fair and Flexible. I really don’t want to have to re-sign and give up my ability to look elsewhere in December but I really don’t want to have to worry about going over again. I know that if you argue with CS enough they usually see your side and can waive many of the restrictions they place on service and I was just curious if anyone had gotten away with this before hand.
