Several major stadiums here ban chapstick. I assume it’s because people leave it in the aisles or even throw it at participants. So two questions: do venues ban chapstick where you live and why do you think they do so?
I’ve never heard of this in my life and not sure how it gets enforced. There’s taking sufficient security precautions and then there’s spending several minutes with each person who enters, all while you can bring a Chapstick in via your shoe if you want.
Where is this happening, could you provide a cite for this claim? First I’ve ever heard of it and just how do they find chapstick on you without making someone totally strip down?
As out-of-hand as event security theater is getting, I feel steadily less bad about not going to things in person.
I’m looking for a good cite where it’s easy to find on a website. It seems like the Petco Stadium, Pechanga Arena and other venues list it in the mouseprint but I’m looking for a better site. My coworker said she thinks they ban it specifically at Electric Dance Music (EDM) events.
I’ve seen some threads on reddit where they mention chapstick being confiscated at events. But this is just from seeing the subject in the thread listing. I haven’t dived into the thread to get the details as to why it’s done. Search for “reddit ban chapstick” and you’ll find a bunch of threads.
Well I can see why!
It appears to specifically be banned at EDM and concerts, not at baseball games or other events.
I wonder if it’s to try to prevent people from bringing in cannabis products disguised as lip balm.
I’m having difficulty imagining a public event venue that permits smoking at all, so I don’t really see how smuggling in a product meant to be smoked is going to make getting high at the EDM show any easier.
Btw, do they ban only lip balm in stick form, or also in the small disc-shaped jars?
I appreciate you’re reasoning. I’ve seen only bans specifying ChapStick but haven’t seen ones of the small disc-shaped ones you’ve mentioned like Carmex or other brands. I’m still trying to figure out the reasoning behind it. My reasoning seems to be in three areas: people could be throwing the sticks and canisters, burning/melting the contents or doing something else crazy with them. I’ve never done any of these things so have no idea myself.
(Related?) Chapstick weirdness. During a severe winter windstorm, I was given the task of purchasing supplies for the emergency responders, including dozens of tubes of Chapstick.
Turns out Wal-Mart cash registers were programmed to reject purchases of more than a small number. Senior managerial intervention was required to put through the sale.
And now bans at public events? Is Chapstick somehow way more sinister that I realized?
When was the last time Suzy Chaffee was seen in public?
