cheap fuel alternative

On the global ideas bank (see link) someone proposed a fuel containing napta as a cheap alternative.

Is it workable in reality (or just theory) & if so, why aren’t such alternate fuels becoming more ubiquitous?

Does Cecil address the issue of cheap fuel sources anywhere on StraightDope?

Sounds like a con job to me. :smiley: Besides, if it runs in diesel, it is almost impossible to run in cars.

Thanks so much for the links! I would think, though, that I’d see Cecil & everyone hashing over this issue more desparately (at least as often, if not more so, than the love-bug issue is discussed… :frowning:

naptha is a partially refined precursor to gasoline. As for the water, I can’t imagine an emulsion is any easier to vaporize in a carburetor or fuel injector, most emulsions are thicker than their ingredients.
